Greg L
when i was looking at my bike to day my front freewheel was moving left and right is it the Bottom Bracket thats broken ??It'l be your free wheel that has come lose, you can tighten it with a hammer and a screw driver by hiting the circles that are on the disk of your free wheel closet to your frame, or you can leave it and lose all your bearings on the floor then buy a new free wheel. Enjoy

Greeny
hello mate, i have the same problem but instead of a freewheel i have a fixed sprocket, when i spin the cranks around my sprocket moves left and right just like yours. i don't no you did not say but when i try to spin my cranks backwards they are extremely stiff. as i am unable to do crank spins any more so what i have done is i have brought a new cheap bottom bracket to try out to see if this solves the problem, if it does not i will not know what to do probabley end up buying some new cranks or something we will have to see.but i will tell you when i have my new bottom bracket fitted if it has solved the problem, hopefully it will.but if i remember correctly when i have taken my cranks of once before i think i seen the bottom bracket slightly bent which was not normal. hopefully my new bottom bracket will solve the problem, and i hope you can fix yours because i no how annoying it is.thank you Greeny
JT!
Why are people talking about a freewheel tool?I asume you have an acs claws, what happens is the lockring tends to come loose. All you need to do is stick a screwdriver in the little wholes on the left and side of the freewheel and tighten it up. That should stop it swaying left and right.I doubt very much that your BB is broken, but if it's the whole crank arm and the freewheel that's moving left to right an you've tried tightening your crank bolt, i may be your BB. bikerbob
And which way do you turn the lockring? I think mine could do with a nip up.Bob

bob87
What tool are we talking about? On some freewheel there are four curved slots.Acs make a tool that fits into slots and takes it off in seconds, rather than sitting there hammering the hell out of it. Simple and easy. The freewheel it's self wont be loose if the bike has been ridden. So maybe you are the idiot? Edited July 9, 2006 by JT!
bob87
Yeah, but we're not talking about taking the freewheel off, there's no need too.You don't need to buy a tool to tighten the actualy freewheel, it tightens as you ride. The freewheel it's self wont be loose if the bike has been ridden. So why do companys make a tool specialy made for tightening the lockring on the freewheel, when you can just ride your bike, are you now saying the manufacturers have wasted there time making this tool? JT!
Ok....I thought you were talking about the tool used to remove the freewheel it's self. There is a tool to tighten the lockring, but there's no need to use it for 2 reasons.1. You can easily do it with a screwdriver.2. You have to remove the whole crank arm to use the tool. There's no need to pay for a tool.
bob87
Ok....I thought you were talking about the tool used to remove the freewheel it's self.I was and i wasn't.I meant take the cranks off, use a chain-whip and the freewheel remover(the one with the four prongs). Then you tighten the locking ring of the freewheel with the tool that looks like a half moon with two pins on the end.Sorry about the confusion, i just like to do thing the proper way.It saves damaging the bike and you. You just jam a screwdriver in one of the wholes and tighten it. Edited July 9, 2006 by JT!
