hicks
i got a member to post for me saying i would take it and asked montyrider to phone me ! that way works so if your not allowed sorry, but i don't see why you shouldn't be allowed, it just stops the new people being able to buy parts for the bikes from a reliable source where you can check people out properly! sucks really (well for those who don't no members anyway )
adamtrials
The rule is in place to stop scammers from signing up and ripping people off. It alsoserves as an extra incentive for one to get validated, as one dosent deserve to use all ofthe forums features until one is worthy of being a full member. You mention about you being able to check the seller out, yes that is true but it is a two way systemand the seller has no idea who the hell you are, you could be a nigerian scammonger for all anyone knows.Ultimately breaking of the rules like you have done will still happen, but you or the seller wont be able to complain if something goes wrong in the dealing. Simpson
No theres nothing wrong with it obiously members recognise the increased risk when buying / swapping with people without ref's but obiously other places such as e-bay entails the same risk factor - so i dont see anything wrong with itjust wait till you get validated an post it up then - but if your mates a member you should just have asked him to leave a nice comment - no-one needs to know the deal was between you an himuse your noodle an stop'a'wastin' my time!!! Think of it this way. I could register an account on here, make another msn account and either contact a seller through msn, tell them i am going to buy their stuff and mess them around for weeks. Alternatively i could get a member to advertise for me an ashton frame at a bargain price. I dont have an ashton frame. But i'm sure i could convince someone to send me a cheque for it, cash it and do a runner. I could then easily create another account and do exactly the same, nobody would be able to tell. What's the forum going to do, blacklist a new members account? I'm sure somebody who has had to wait weeks or months for an account to be validated isnt going to want to mess around and have it banned/ blacklisted. Obviously there are exceptions and my example dosent cover all the possibilities, but it gives you an idea of a potential extreme case. And besides that if selling was allowed then the forum would just get loads of tards joining up to sell stuff.I'm sure your member friends will love getting a warning for advertising your stuff... bikerbob
I'm also half way through buying something off here (we're agreed on terms and we've exchanged details and stuff but i haven't paid and he hasn't sorted out postage yet) and I'm not a member, however I think that it is completely the sellers decision if they want to sell it to somebody who has no reference. On the other hand i think the validation system is a good idea, it keeps non-members from posting loads of pointless messages when they are only really half interested; because that is what a lot of people seem to do even without the validation system. The way I see it, if you are interested and the seller has left their e-mail address, then why not send them a polite email and ask them if they would consider it. If you recieve a reply then exchange phone numbers and have a chat with them before any money changes hands and make sure that you both are happy with whats going on.Bob
