But I think the validation system should stay in place because at the end of the day it does the job and it is not hard to get validated, I was validated after 4 posts.....

It does do it's job. But NM still needs to be moderated. The reaons it's there is to stop crap being posted in other parts of the forum. But i think we could put up with a little bit of crap being posted in other forums, for the sake of members not being validated who should.

I never denied that the validation system dosn't work, it just has it's other downside, like the people who post once or twice a month, chances are they'll never get validated. Just becuase they don't use the from as extensivly as some people do they wont get to use all the features, and therefor maybe wont use it at all.

It really is weighing the pro's with the con's. But i feel that the con's outweigh the pro's. However i'm not a moderator and don't know the inner workings of the forum at all, so i expect one of the admins or mods to come on here and say that it's the opposite way round.

Solution - a validation button similar to the report button, if you've seen a new member who should be validated and hasn't then you could nominate them by "reporting" them.

Oh and jt, whats going on with your avatar...

I finally caught it after me thinking it was flicking over the past few days...

Or, couldnt you set certain people to moderate, the NM's. This way it can be alot more closely monitered. I like the idea of validation. But you do get some people who post something good, and still dont get validated because of it. Im not having a moan and a groan because i love you all. :$

But yea, i think we do need more moderators. Maybe promote a couple of the seniors?

I never post on here because when I want to post a relevant answer to a topic I don't have the permission.

Good Lord what the hell is that about?!

If you so deserve to be validated, how about you help out some other people? This forum isnt just about getting the answers you want, its about helping others as well. You could have easily done that in the 2 years you've been a member, no doubt you would have been validated pretty much instantly, and found the answers you've been looking for by now.

Why can't this place operate in the same way as most other forums do? Hmm?

You mean, like delete members if they havent visited for 2 weeks. Or ensure that two members who are already members vote you in. Or only open registrations 1 day a month. Or only open registration by invitation?

Is it because it's easier to filter the drivel out of only one room as opposed to moderating the entire forum?

Yes.

Sounds like a hell of a fuss to me.

Not really, make one good post, get validated? Without it it will be more of a fuss for us, which we basically cant cope with, ending up in the forum just turning into a shit heap.

Maybe my view on this is a simplistic one and there may well be reasons only the mods know as to why the forums operates as it does, but surely if someone is posting tosh, they can just be deleted wherever they may be on the forum?

They are simplistic yes. If you were running this forum you'd soon realise that its not as simple as chasing people around and deleting their 'tosh'. For starters, we dont have the time to chase people around deleting spam, and eventually it will end up in banning them, then we really could be accused of having 'Hitlerian control principles'.

Solution - a validation button similar to the report button, if you've seen a new member who should be validated and hasn't then you could nominate them by "reporting" them.

You can do that, just use the report button if you think someone should be validated. All it does is flag a post so the mods can look into it.

Well I suppose as this post was aimed at me I should put in my two cents....

Angry Greg (who actually is called Greg, and is a riding buddy of mine) is not an idiot, he's extremely clever, well spoken, mature, intelligent and has the shortest fuse ever. He is one of the most bloody-minded, beligerant and irrational people I've ever met, and like everyone, he occasionally has a rant at the world.

Well worth validating though....

And yeah, my videos do rock.

Other forums have it differently because they aren't flooded by a bunch of mindless middle school rampage of adolescent ignorance. They believe text talk is acceptable, they believe earning benefits is a job, they believe that it is there god given right and mission to pull the english society down into depression.

I may start recording threads that prove and highlight why the system is in place, and why it works.

There are of course some exceptions to this generalization, for which i thank you for highlighting.

So, because im a new member, and young ( well, 16) I believe earning benefits is a job, believe that it is there god given right and mission to pull the english society down into depression. ? dont really see that been fair on all the new members.

No doubt there has been much discussion regarding the validations process on this forum, but I'm going to chuck in my tuppence worth anyway.

I never post on here because when I want to post a relevant answer to a topic I don't have the permission.

Good Lord what the hell is that about?! Why can't this place operate in the same way as most other forums do? Hmm? Is it because it's easier to filter the drivel out of only one room as opposed to moderating the entire forum? Or is it to discourage those of us who'd rather be out riding than sitting rotting infront of a computer, trying to come up with suitable witty and original subject matter to prove one's good intention?

Sounds like a hell of a fuss to me. I want to reply to a post without having to submit my damn CV for approval first!!*

And yet again the principle of new members chat is missed. It isn't about starting a good thread, its about showing your helpful and can contribute towards the forum. Its actually quite hard to randomly draw up a thread from your imagination, hence all the new-members who think their original by asking what brake pads people think are best and how far can people jump. I think new members chat is actually made more chaotic because of this misconceived idea due to everyone desperately trying to make a decent topic. Why doesn't it happen in members chat? because people don't have to, they can just go around replying to other peoples topics and when they receive a good idea for a thread through devine intervention or just utter chance they can put it up and share it with the forum.

I think if new members stopped making such stupid topics all the time and actually concentrated on helping teach each other and stop complaining at each other for making lame topics (which really doesn't help at all) then they'd be validated much quicker. I reckon if a new member were to say thank you for receiving help on something or even to go off topic and say how they thought someones post was inspiring or even just slightly helpful and they appreciated the time the person spent to inform them then it would go much further in the favour of becoming valdated than starting any topic. I for one would validate someone who seems considerate just as quickly as someone who makes a good topic.

However, in spite of this new members is a repeating cycle of misinformaty (dunno if thats a word or not :P) and unneccessary comments. It'll never change and i'd rather it all be kept in one place than spread out over the entire forum.

Just read this and its made me smile! sorry to bring the post back up but has he been Validated yet or not?!

Kev

Look next to his name... see that? Says pre-members. No, that account is not validated yet.

P.S. Sorry for writing a mini essay..... again :$

the validation system is fine , and when ,or if i do get validated itl be worth evry minute reading the 27th " i need a new bike what do you recomend" or the 17th "what brake pads do you think are the best" . I am not a member but i can imagen how gay (not used derogitarily) it would be having that in the full members "place".

so yeah DONT change the validation system. its fine. (Y)
