Magura Set Up

sorry if this question has been asked before guys. ever since iv had my maguras one side of the brakes always seems to lock its self out. both front and rear brakes do this. i have bled both of them a number of times thinking it might be a blockage in the piston but after i set the brakes up the piston just jams its self out again. could this be due to the fact that the main hose only runs to one side of the brake?would buyind a t-piece and running the cable to both pistons help to stop my brakes doing this? any help/info would be much appreciated.

Wind the TPA all the way in so that the pistons are in.

Take off pads

Hold lever on and put abit of lube on the pistons.

Pump pistons abit to work the lube

Put pads back in and set the brake so that the TPA doesn't get used!

Should be alot better now (Y)

thanks for the info but iv actualy already tried this. i tried lubing them and cleaning them but for some reason the damn things still stick on one side. i also bled the rear with water thinking it might be the oil i was using, the brake now feels buttery smooth but its still rubbing.

Hi

try undoing your hosing. If the hose has got a lip around the edge, get something pointy and roll it round the edge of the hose do this to each end. Make sure the end of the hose hasn't got a bit of a lip around the edge. Connect the pipe back on, rebleed if you need to and set your brake up with no adjustment and you should be ready to go.

hope this helps.

thanks court

magura's due to all thats returning them being a small spring with in the lever can some times do this and not retract properly. the only way i've found of making the problem less so is simply toeing out the pad's on the side thats rubbing ie angle the pads so as the leading edge or the bit which contacts the rim sorta first like if the wheel is rotating forward as it usualy is the back face of the pad will contact the rim first so if you toe them out slightly so you angle them so this back face of the pad is SLIGHTLY further from the rim than the front they wont rub as badly but if only toed out slightly should still lock up just as well when pressure is applied. I would guess you already know this but just incase any idea could be helpfull. every thing else i could think of to improcve the retraction has already been said there's not much you can do short of just by a new slave cylinder for £15

Just trying what court suggested now. I already installed new ones off an old magura(only used 3 times)but it still does the same thing. Maybe a new set of brakes is in order if none of these idea work. Hope not.

I finished with my back brake last night and the stupid things still locking out. There were'nt any burs or lips on any of the magura cables but thanks anyway "courts". I am going to try one more thing before i launch them in the bin. I mentioned earlier about t-pieces(or y-pieces), does any body know where i can get hold of these?

Have you tried bleeding them? I had the same problem with my old magura race line D's and bleeding them fixed it. I would reccomend bleeding them with the proper magura oil rather than water or something else as my mate has water in his and his brake keeps playing up.

Hope this helps

Dan :)

Have you tried bleeding them?

I have unfortunately. Both with magura blood and water, it does'nt seem to affect the way the piston reacts.

Bleeding them with water was my friends idea, he though that because the water is thinner than magura oil the piston retract back after i had pulled the brake. It never. The brake does have a better feel and more power but the pistons still jam out.

i tend to find that my water bleed gives me a little less in the way of sticky pistons ether that or its made them both as sticky so it doesn't matter :- but befroe you grease it id de grease it but it normaly ends up with a new slave but id try and fix it because im about as tight as they come
