Oddball
Hey guys, I'm wanting brake boosters and new pads but need a little advice, please.I've got a T-Pro with Un-grinded rims, and hs33's front and rear, and would like to stop the flexing and have more grip on my rear brake. So my question is, what would you recommend for me to get, and where can I get them.I have searched the forum, but can’t find the exact information I require. Thanks – Anf
Ross McArthur
whatever you decied to do dude grab your bike and head to your local tesco-asda whatever and purchase yourself the cheapest hairspray you can lay your hands on!!!honestly the value stuff is the best! just give the can a shake and spin your wheel and spray it on the rims - each side! ride arond for a minute taping the brake on and off and you should have a nice and grabby brake!makes a c**t of a noise when you brake or if your wheels buckled though!!! but it sure as hell works if you dont have a grinded rim.p.s dont ride with this technique when its raining . grind your rim for that and watch the sparks fly!ta ross

Dan6061
How much are you looking to spend on each? Are you willing to grind your rim? Or keep it smooth?I'd say Plaz CRMs for a grind, mine have lasted aaaages!Over a year I think, they started wearing, then just...stopped. - £17 from Tartybikes.Zoo pads for a smooth rim, maybe with a bit of tar. - £18 from TartybikesI was riding with Sam Wheeler yesterday, and he had Zoo pads on a smooth Viz rim, made a very load noise, and locked really well! For the booster, either the £20 Echo one as mentioned, Echo Team 2 bolt, Echo Control 4 bolt, or Heatsink. All good boosters. There are plenty more, but they're the main ones I can think of right now.One thing about my booster (Echo Team):When I stripped the threads in my brake mounts, I took it to a local engineer, and he looked at my booster spacers and they were callapsed. "Cheapo aluminium shite" is what he called them. So he made me some stainless steel ones! And they work really well, and wont collapse like the Alu ones.If you can, get that done from a local engineer.Cost me £20 for him to helicoil all 4 mount threads, stainless steel booster spacers, machined out my mounts so the spacers fit, and to clean the holes, and gave me some steel bolts.Oh, and he drilled out a rounded bolt! Simpson
If it was my bike an i had enough money / time and stuff to get my brake set up an working pimp here are the things i check / do to get it working nice- Fresh light grind - i only like light ones- Fresh bleed - just because it makes me feel like im doing something not usually necassary playing about with different fluids i change from mineral oil, to baby oil, to water you get the idea just keep mixing it up keep trying to find what suits me best- new pads most "trials specific" pads will do im running 1 heatsink blue and a plaz (should have some majics through soon)- booster - some people may say ah this booster is the best but basically whatever has enough tire clearence other than that its just the pimpness factor......- brake set up... search for topics on it im shit at it anyway!!! lolgood luck man

Ross McArthur
old school maggie boosterzoo padsgrinded rimworks for me and its not a hey look at me ive got a massive gay booster on my bike effort! manages to hold in the tightest of situations, like 6 foot drops to rails so dont go spending money on a flashy booster because you think the standard maggie one wont work or anything! Dan6061
You could grind the rim yourself.Just get an angle grinder (obviously ) and a stone cutting disc.i tried grinding a bit of my rim once, but I pressed it on too hard, so I let my mate do it now. I guess Tartybikes could do it for you..but that's a lot more hassle!
