Just 2 Suggestion

But they enforce a Title rule on the sales forum don't they, but they don't get closed because there are too many of them. And surely its not worth a moderator skimming though them all to close them and then be flooded with PM's asking why it was shut.

I suppose.

If only it was as easy as this little paint drawing.

But Danny and Tomturd are limited to what they can do with this forum aren't they? With it being a Invision Power Board it's coded BY Invision, giving tomturd and danny set abilities such as banning member, closing topics, making new forum catagories and such.

For them to introduce a tagging system, they would have to code it and introduce it to the Invision coding...copyright?

I'm not 100% though, I may be completely wrong...meh...

Edit: Thats if there isn't a patch for it?

Im not quite sure to be honest, it was just a suggestion...

I think it may be possible, but not very easy at all.

Another possibility is to maybe use a different forum software for the

fs bit, ive seen a good free one that does what would be required but

cant remember what it was called. I'll edit in a minute when I remember.

The trouble then though could be that there's a world of hurt having to

have members registering on both boards, which would probably make the

whole thing more complicated than its worth.

Copyright isn't and issue when coding for IPB. Its just "hacking". There are loads of hacks and add-ons to increase the functions and features of IPB, but creating such a hack is easer said then done.

I could do it in around 10 minutes, what you suggested with the filters and such, but thats only if i understood completly how IPB worked, and understanding that is a whole project in itself.

IPB is very complicated, and the code is highly refined.

Something I've seen on other forums, theres a little "new" tab at the thread title, which takes you to the first unread post in the thread, uber useful. (Y)

We have that already, click the little orange box next to the thread title (IPB Image) >_<

Many subforums = shit idea. Another one of my personal pet hates, forums with 100 different categories, even though there are only 3 posts in the first one, and 4 posts in the 5th one, and all the rest of them empty.

Also, what if someone had say.... a stem AND a pair of forks to sell? 2 topics to keep track of (twice the work for all of us).

I'm liking adamtrials' suggestion though. Possibly have the background red for selling and blue for wanted, and then text on top as to what it is, eg mod/stock/mixed. Nice idea. I've got nothing to do today, I might have a bash at that :)

I didn't mean it like a new topic for each part, just catagorised in to Mod or Stock. But meh, yea, whatever...I'll go sulk now. :)

Yay one of my ideas has been useful. :D

Ok i'm off to go smash my head against my wall untill i can't remember what TF is anymore.

I don't think there's any need for mod/stock etc. Alot of item can be intechangeable now anyway, and if someone want to sell a eno freewheel, they'll lable it as mod, when alot of stock riders might be inetrested and they'll just miss it. Also it'll make weather it's forsale or wated less clear, and just look messy.

There is a need for a different tagging system. 99%* of the population of trials forum liked it, inc Tomturd. Sent him a PM and email about it, no reply. Posted up here about it, and he's posted since, still no reply.

Where's that wall?

Yo.

Heres your reply :P

Um, those icons, good idea in principle, but closing every topic which doesnt use the right icon is a hassle, plus it means extra work for us. People cant be arsed to write FS or WTD, let alone use a post icon, most people (like me) just skim over that bit and jump straight for the add reply button.

This system means people HAVE to select an option, and for the 'people arent sure if its mod or stock' ill add a 'mixed' or 'both' option. The way you suggested also doesnt allow you to view only mod items, or only stock items.

Once its all sorted, this way should mean less work for the mods, less annoyed people getting their topics closed, and happier people being able to find exactly what they want, quicker.

As for my resolution, i use 1152x768 (did have it on 1280x1024 but realised I spent most of the time about 5 inches from the screen :P) I just resized the windows before I took a screen dump :)

Fair enough that's all i wanted to hear. I had no idea what kind of things you could do with the forum so that way should work out better.

Got 1280x1024 on my computer now and it's not too bad, I've found.

New stuff looks pretty cool though. No doubt some stupid twats are still not going to actually use it properly, or do they have to before they can post now?

They'll have to ;) (well, there will be one of them selected by default, so its up to them to select the right one)

Why bother with the mod/stock/etc options - like someone said, a lot of parts are interchangeable and people often sell mixtures and random stuff.

Just forcing the FS/WTD bit makes more sense IMVHO - you could even replace them with little icons to make JT feel better :P

oh 1600x1200 here :P

- i think i found a bug with the display on the main forum page at this resolution once.

edit:

it's alright, it's gone away

Forum didn't work for me a min a go.

Thought all this was starting then.

Got me all excited for nothing. :(

It broke.. so I restarted it.

All coming together now.. only one more bit to do which is when you edit a topic, for the right options to be selected at the top, at the moment they just revert back to the default ones. Much harder to sort out than I first thought. Overall though, it works.

(new colours needed :P)

EDIT: ebay and for sale topics get the same colour, as they're much the same, as are trade and wanted.

Looks good that, just the colours dont really go with the forum colour.

I would guess they are going to put the skin on it.

Is it a good idea having it close the thread when its sold?

People get messed around quite a bit in sales, and that would mean a new topic is required.
