David
Hey, basically I really want to make a frame for my A2 DT project. I am confident in working with metals/brazing and I think I have the commitment and time required. The only thing holding me back is that I have to think of a design problem with current frames and solve it...The only thing I can really think of for trials frames is wheels slipping but this has already been solved with the creation of 360 dropouts. I am looking for other ideas of things I could do. I think I can just say there is not a frame that fits the client perfectly so I am going to make one with geo for them but I will have to check this. Has anyone else made a frame for their A2 DT project? Any help?ThanksDaveEDIT: Im now thinking it doesnt have to be a trials frame, could also be a 26" street frame. craigjames
your project doesnt have to be a completely original idea if you think that it can be further improved on or you have an alternative solution, its good to be able to compare your design to the original, especially if you can get some form of quantitative data to compare with your own designs.you might want to build a frame but is there anything else with the products in the sport that bugs you. i wanted to build a frame but ended up making a bike trailer from the rear end of a mini for my mini.craig
Haz
Well, you don't have to be innovative. I would say just make a good brief at the start which basically lets you do exactly what you want to. So just, if you are making it for yourself, say that your 'client' would like a frame built to given specifications which are unavailable from other manufacturers in the market. That way, you pretty much have a free choice. For example, I want to make a bass guitar, for me, I've wanted to do it for ana age and A2 DT is the best time me thinks, but to give the brief a new spin, I said that it would use modern construction techniques to build a ergonomic and playable device, based on a classic design with features and components chosen by my client.Basically, I want to make a bass, and all I did in that brief was to say I'm bloody well building it how I want. My teacher approved it as a bespoke item.
David
Thanks for the replies. For your bass quitar how are you showing the design problem? I have to use photos/sketches to show what the problem is so I am wondering how I can show the problem of the lack of frames with geometry which is specific to me?? (if that makes sense)ThanksDave
