Janson
Hey,My maggie is being really slow. It feels sluggish, and not nearly as snappy and "easy" like other water maguras. The bleed is often OK, I've tried to lube the pistons up the usual way (tpa all way in, press lever, spray lube) but to no help. When I bled it now the lever wouldn't even return properly, that's how sluggish it is!So what can I do about it? Am I able to pull the pistons completely out, to clean the whole brake out that way?Help!
Tom Booth
Have you hit the lever recently? asin through a bail or fall? iI so you might have shoved your lever in an damaged the piston. I did this once my lever never returned fully and returned slowly, even with extra water in the system it didnt work properly
Janson
no memory of hitting the lever.. might have twatted it riding natural or something!I am gonna try an older lever (old and i think leaky Tomac hs33 lever) to see if it helps..edit: yay for the stupid 2 part tpa. i cant find the other half, damn you magura! Janson
I've sorted it now, kind of. It feels loads better, not 100% like new but I'm happy anyway!I bled the brake with oil, let it sit for an hour, blew out with pump, bled through 3-4 times with water, then I replaced one of the slaves, which was the real troublemaker. My brake now has a silver lever, one silver slave, and one red slave. Looks horrible but feels much better!
MrSuave
i found that removing the brake lever pivot bolts, cleaning, greasing up like a badboy, threadlocking and doing it up JUST tight enough helped a load.....smoooooth and snappy as hell. youll notice if your really tighten it up the lever will be sooo sluggish regardless of the bleed.hope this helps

modrider666
make sure the lever bolt isnt done up to tight if you no what i mean? the bolt that gose through the bit that is on the handle bar and through the lever just a thought ryan Thats the clamp, makes no difference As for your problem Janson i had exactly the same thing on my 05 Maggie, and it was solved by a new lever. The plunger in the lever was sticky and getting stuck thn slowly returning down.
Wing
The plunger in the lever was sticky and getting stuck thn slowly returning down.I had this problem too, but i didn't need a new lever. I took the old one apart and cleaned everything out, was as good as new
Janson
Weird part is that i cleaned the whole lever out, and it's still a bit sluggish. One slave was very slow, which is now replaced, but the lever is still not perfect.I'll get a new lever some time.
