Simpson
Just a kinda diary of my achne in pictures - may help some of you out......ive have had achne for well over a year now - it wasnt because my face was dirty or grubby or anything in fact my face was probably the cleanest in the school!!! i have a real thing about feeling clean so probably wash my face 3 times a day. Anyway my achne kind of came and gone i tried all varoius product - neutrogena - clearasil - some posher stuff - some stuff which burnt your face - face packs... you know i really tried it kinda died away when i surfed (sun and sea water) and came up after sweaty rides - it did make a differenceanyway it becambe a kind of paranopd thing where i thought people wernt seeing me as me because of these spots. i mean i always have had a lot of friends and friends were fine but when i was out - "on the pull" or whatever i felt really self concious and not confident. i went to my doctors nemerous times who said "just wash with warm water" *bud bud ding ding kinda bloke you know the sort*So my mum managed to get him to refer us to a skin specialist privatly - my dads PPP plan gave us "limited appointments" and wouldnt pay for some of the drugs including "Roaccutane" after the 1st consultation the bloke bascally said we can have laser treatment and nemeuos other things but the only thing to really be done was have Roaccutane. But... it had sideaffects like aching muscles after sport (which i do non stop) couldnt go out in the sun (i have but.... ) and loads of other things... mood swings probably skitzifrenia you know but luckily for me i didnt have any of these just very sore lips as you may see in the photos. So we went home and decided we just had to do it because if not there wasnt a time when the achne would end and the thought of having to live with it through adulthood really was an eye oppener. So we managed to take these drugs and i got a real good face mask - Saguna silicol skin (if you want a great face mask to use in conjunction with achne i really do recomend this it hurts as it clings really tight to your face but really impressive results - my mum noticed it in a magasine - its really quite expensive like £12 but the tube lasted me forever - call 08707274153 if you want some )so yea heres some pics in cronological order - my target was to get it sorted out in time for prom because im going with the really great hot girl and didnt want it to show up in all her photo's when she has to look back on them with 2 weeks to go it looks kinda hopefull that all the red may have calmed down.i would say enjoy but not really much too enjoy lolpost any comments try to remember its kind of personal and something im still concious of so anyone taking the piss in a non humerous way will f**k me off thanks!! Rob_P
Mate, nice one!!!!!!! Like you I used to have quite bad achne (no offence) which really got on my nerves. I had it a bit on my face but more so on my back. I used to find the sun really used to clean it right up, but then again how often does the sun come out? I went to my Doctor whos a skin specialist, managed to get an appointment at the hospital and like you he gave me Roaccutane. My mum was sh*t scared as soon as he said that because someone she knew had been taking this at Uni, and one of the side effects is suicide! This person she knew (friends son) actually did commit suicide while taking it at uni So obviously she didn't want me to take it, but after some convincing that it was more down to the pressure of work and living alone, I started taking it. At first it just got worse but that was expected, then it started to really kick in and everything eventually disappeared!!!! So once it had all gone I stopped taking it and to this day i've been clear (touch wood) Nice one mate, that stuff really does work
Alexx
Good results mate, Roaccutane is powerfull - the only thing you have to hope for is that once you finish the cycle and come off it your skin doesn't slowly flair up again, if it does start to come back try 'minocycline' which is like a far less powerfull version of Roaccutane (well, it's not, but it does the same thing), but you can use minocycline for 1+ years unline roaccutane, to keep it at bay 'till your out of your teens. Any skin speciallist can provide it, in 25mg, 50mg, or 100mg doses.
Simpson
Yea Rob definatly thanks for all the comments guys really happy with the improvments - yea the list of side effects really was like........ wo........ lol but i just had to go for it becuase if not there was no time it would end. No i know it was kind of bad... it didnt affect me much just looking in the mirror made me like.... dude sort of thing...they say they judge achne by your back but to be honest i never had much across my bad because everytime i went they were like can i see you back lol no the problems my face lolyea definatly given me more confidence on the pull - i was walking 3 random girls home saturday night (as you do) and we were just casually chatting and they were refering to one kid at the party as the one with the achne which mad me really and i bit my tounge and didnt say anything - but looking back it shows the change that as strangers they would never have guessed!!! Alexx
Ive been told that its kind of a once its gone it gone for good kinda thing In most cases I think it is, I couldn't say off hand, I've never used it - but I have read that some peoples comes back afterwords unless they use something like minocycline to keep it gone! There are litrally hundreds of people here on Roaccutaine, who post their experience, and after-experience.Skin = Anoying

RicH_87
just thought i'd add a comment so that people don't just run straight out and buy loads of random drugs.i had achne just as bad as yours, and at some points much worse. It probably started when i was around 15-16 and i'm 19 now. It was just regular until i was probably about 17 when it started faliring up really badly. Like you i tried random faces washes, wipes, creams the usual commercial shite but a lot of it just made it worse. I found there is such thing as being too clean, your skin needs certain things to protect itself so by washing those all away it actually make the problem worse.Anyway, my mum kept suggesting we went to the docs to try and get some drugs or something to help out. I personally wasn't too botherd and said i'd just ride it out. Anyway I found a cream called Freederm which you can easily buy for a couple of quid. It's like an anti-inflamitory which for me was the worse part. I would get like big swollen lumps like when you hit you knee or elbow but the freederm helped keep that down which inturn stopped me playing with myself and as a result it all eventually died down. I also stopped using any kind of face wash/soap. I just wash my face once in the morning in the shower, again whenever i get it from work or anywhere else, and again just before bed all with warm water. I still get a few spots obviously but nowhere near as bad as they used to.I also found a product called Bio-Oil which can be used to help get rid of scarring and other things like stretch marks. I harley ever use it but it is good stuff and might help you get your skin completely clear of the redness. The worse thing about achne for me is the discomfort. At its worse it was like having a huge bruise and somone constantly poking it. I've only ever had one bad comment about it and i'm natuarally quite a laid back person so i would just grin an bear it. People who shun me cos of the way i look aren't worth knowing anyway imo.so yeh, in summary, avoid all the commercial crap like 'clearasil' etc. chances of it working are slim becasue everyones skin is different. Just washing your face with warm water is actually better than using any kind of soap. And leave it alone, this is hard, believe me i know, but prodding and poking your face will only make it worse. Just let it come and go, you'll be glad you did in the long run.Anyway, congrats on beating it, i'm glad the drugs worked for you, but i just wanted people to know there are other ways of going about it. UrbanPoet
I wish I'd of been arsed to do any of this stuff, but at least mine wasn't as bad as yours - thank f**k. I just left myself to grow out of it, but there's still a bit left, but I am only 18. Good luck to you and your face.BTW, it's ACNE.
Simpson
Anyway, congrats on beating it, i'm glad the drugs worked for you, but i just wanted people to know there are other ways of going about it.and i totally agree with you just at 1st i left it - and then after a year of fighting it with creams - soaps - wipes - masks - all the old mothers tales putting tooth paste over your face for a night (which just made my skin uber sore and chaffed - and all the toxins the doctor gave me various spreads and concuctoins - being on anti biotics longish term. i had just had enough i understand ways of tacklling it but for me this really was the last resort. if this hadnt had worked i would have just given up and got down about iti mean i go to a harsh school and got in scrapps for people taking the piss - "f**king achne willy" e.t.c. this has been kind of hard posting this up cos' its a really sensitive issue for me. And just been a personal sucess for me really - well not yet but i a good enough way there EDITBTW, it's ACNE.Yea sorry i was thinking about how to spell it but couldnt work it out LMAO thanx!! But i had a real thing about it and if anyone made an insult of it - my schools harsh taking the piss out of dead grandparents e.t.c. but no-one mentioned my face much and if they did id always instantly
Dai the Socket
I've got this Retin-A cream for daily use, proscribed by a dermatologist and he ave me some 'Trimethoprim' tablets too.Seems to have worked but it's not gone yet.
Tomm
I used to have it fairly and my younger cousin called me pizza face all the time. Then he got a bit older and got really bad acne himself. Naturally I'm really mature and I call him pizza face so he knows how it feels.I don't think it's something you need to worry about having forever. I'm pretty sure most people grow out of it completely when they're like 18/19/20. The only problem is that if it was once really bad, it can scar, which obviously is permanent. One of my friends (Age 25) is paying almost a grand to have a "skin peel". It's one of those stupid (IMO) cosmetic things advertised in women's magasines. Basically they strip a layer of skin off and after you're not allowed out in the sun for 6 months He's really vain though so I'm sure he'll like it, and it should get rid of any of the scarring left by acne, apparently. Alexx
You could tell him you can do thost skin peels yourself for like £6 The only reason derms do it is so that tards don't f**k and burn their face off - but anyone with half a brain can do a chemical skin peel to themselfs, just apply, leave on for correct time, neutralise. You can get the kits from whole-salers for next to nothing, derms charge a bomb for the service though - right rip off. Unless he's getting laser treatment or stuff, in which case you can't DIY it.DIY ones are the progressive type usually too, which are less harsh ...and no i've never done one, but i've read a bunch of threads about em on that forum i posted above, people say they're good - personally I wouldn't mess around with that kinda stuff, just let nature do it's thing, but if you're into that kinda thing then meh... worth a look?!
Tomm
I think he did mention something about lasers, but I don't know the ins and outs of it. You seem to be very clued up on the subject of vanity Alexx
Alexx
Dunno about Vanity , subject of skin yeah... but you know how much you can pick up in just a couple of weeks on a forum, that one above has info on just about everything going.Edit: Unless your talking about health and diet in general, in which case, yeah haha
Simpson
i think skin peels that you get for like £6 and what a pro will do are different - dont pro's literally cut off the top layer of skin using a tool ??? my friends going to have it done.... its not vain its consern because i have minor scarring now but not anothing permanent *touch wood*
anzo
dont pro's literally cut off the top layer of skin using a tool...Stick to what they do best, making pens.
Janson
I hear overdosing on Vitamin B5 or something works wonders for some people. It's quite costly but apparently does the job.. I'm not doing it though, overdosing on anything doesn't seem very good.I use 'Basiron 5%' for my acne. It's not bad, but gets better with the Bas. It says on the package that you're not allowed into bright sunlight for long periods while using it, but I'm fine even being out all day. The only thing though, is if I've used it in the morning, and sweat during the day, the basiron comes out with the sweat of my face and stains the collars of my tees. b*****d. The basiron is a cream btw, anti inflammatory and the active ingredient is benzoylperoxide or something like that, which should kill the acne it says. N.Wood
My bro used to be on some acne shiznit, i have ze box here...Called: "Tetralysal 300, Lymecycline, 408mg (equivalent to 300 mg tetracylcline base)"Basically, take one of the lil capsules once a day (he used to do it before breakfast i think, something about taking it with a meal) and it seems to have sorted it.Apparently it gets a wee bit worse before it gets better, but after 8 weeks or so it's pretty much cleared on my bro. His wasn't as bad as yours, probably around the same as yours is now. But it's all clear now i think. He got it on prescription from the doctor, and seem to have it at most chemists. Good to see it's clearing up.What razor and shaving foam/cream/gel do you use out of interest? Good, sharp razors (i use a Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium or a Gillette M3 turbo) and foam/cream for sensitive skin can help keep it calmer. King Of Shaves sensitive gel is really nice and cooling, which is always good.
Simpson
What razor and shaving foam/cream/gel do you use out of interest? I used to wet shave but obiously with my complexion it wasnt the greatest thing as my skin was so "mountainous"that cutting was stupid - i now electric shave only when i need to leaving it as long as possible - but im only 16 and not the george of the jungle type so it isnt too much of a problem - ill go back to wet shaving when my complexion is better
