unicycle boy
Hey I was wondering if anyone knew why my brakes were squeeking really loudly? The brakes are magura HS11's and they have been bled with water, also they are using monty brake pads and monty bike spray. Also this is the first time I have tried bleeding with water and my brake seems to go on, then the lever can be pulled even more, is this something to do with the water? Also I am unable to get my brake pads really close as my wheel is not straight, do I need a special tool or is it just the spokes which need adjusting? Incase it matters it is an old wheel which came with a 2002 onza t-bird.Thanks Very much
Lawnmowerman
Take it to a decent bike shop and get it sorted. Too much there for you to do if you dont know what your doing
JT!
Magura brakes squeak, the more they squeak the better the brake is usually. I'd be concerned if they didn't squeak.if you want to 'pull your leaver less' there's a bolt on the leaver that you screw inwards. You can see the bolt here on the silver part of the leaver just down and left from the very center. Just to the right of the '11'. Screw that clockwise. If your wheel isn't stright you need a spoke key to make it true again, but you do really need to know what your doing. I would suggest taking it to your local bike shop and getting them to do it for you. Also, don't use monty brake spray, use tar. It's much better. Edited June 18, 2006 by JT! munch8987
The reason your brakes are squeeking could be a number of reasons. If your wheel is not straight, and you don't have the right tools and don't know what your doing, take it into your lbs and get it sorted, they normally charge bout £10 for thisI used to use monty brake spray on my rims too, until i ground them, and it's the monty spray that makes them squeek. Was quite funny because i used to be able to make little songs out of it
Simpson
Take it to a decent bike shop and get it sorted. Too much there for you to do if you dont know what your doing^^^^^ basicallyin my veiw you need to -grind your rim to get off the monty spray shit - never use it again- a spoke tool you true your rim by twisting the nipples- prob new pads i never really liked the feel of monty ones
unicycle boy
I have a reasonable idea what im doing and I dislike taking it to my lbs, they will charge me at least £15 labour and buy multiple brand new parts for it. Also I don't mind if I do it wrong as I plan to get a new bike soon.Edit: Could you explain what you mean by twisting the spokes? I mean which ones should I twist etc. Edited June 18, 2006 by unicycle boy

N.Wood
Where do you live? Take it to your friendly, local trials rider and see what they can do. Then buy them a pint or three. Will be cheaper (unless you live in London... eek), he won't want you to buy new parts, and will generally do it to a higher standard. For general information, water bleeds have no effect on whether the brake squeels or not.
