onzatprodude
hi yesterday i tried to pedal hop then something rounded off at first i thought it was my bb or chainring but i just found out today that its my profile. the problem is, is that its not engaging when i put pressure on. has this happened to anyone else? and does anyone know whats happened and if i can fix it?... or could i send it somewhere to get it fixed so i don't have to splash out on a new one?cheers for any help Edited June 17, 2006 by onzatprodude
the judge
Probably just broke the pawls or the springs. Somewhere like tartybikes could fix it for you, or you could buy the parts and do it yourself
onzatprodude
ive just checked tat and it all seems to be working fine... i push them it and they immediatly come back out, i just dont know whats the matter
Mark W
Check the ratchet ring. Are the ridges OK on it? Can you spin it with your finger?EDIT: You are sure it's not your fixed sprocket spinning on the crank 'cos you've stripped the thread? What cranks are you running? mat hudson
sounds like the ratchet rings detatched itself to me, are there any bangs or cracks or just a wooshing sound of death?
PaRtZ
How new is it? Will and myself have found that new profiles have about a month of bedding in, after which all the loose bits of pawls/springs/teeth etc end up inside the mechanism causing it the skip like a maniac. It sounds like you've had a worse experiance than I did, but not unlikely that this is the same caseHeres a quick check for itTake the wheel off and the axle fun bolts for drive side. The driver should just pull straight out but may require some tools or a lot of force. If it falls out though, don't worryWith the driver (the bit with the cog on and about 4 bearing races inside) out, you should be able to see some small pieces of metal on the other part of the hub (usually, it gets stuck on the axle bearing rubber seal but check everywhere else too) If you can't see any bits, read a bit lower down, but if you can, get a small brush like a toothbrush and gently clean all the bits onto a rag for binning. Reassemble the hub and it should work fine If you can't see any bitsLeave the hub and go back to the driver. You should see the 4 pawls sticking out in a nice pattern. First check the springiness of the pawls, do they even go in? or is there some dirt preventing it? Clean if soIf they go in and don't return (or indeed were never sticking out in the first place, see if you can see what is happening with the spring steel. Does it need a slight bending out to keep the pawls spring loaded? Are some of the springs missing. Whichever the case, you may need to order some new springs, which some kind TF member will locate a cheap place for buying them separately, im sure Other than that I can't think of anything, sorry Hope this helps though

the judge
The ratchet ring is the thing with ridges on which the pawls engage into.
PaRtZ
The ratchet ring is the thing with ridges on which the pawls engage into. I thought that was like a majorly integral part of the hub?! lol
the judge
Well, I wasn't disputing that fact, I was just answering this question "could anyonje tell me what the rachet is? looks like? and were abouts it the hub its located?" which was asked at the end of the previous post. PaRtZ
yeah i know that, sorry if it was unclear, but i meant how can he have lost it if its a mjorly integral part of the hub lol
Mark W
They aren't part of the hub though. By that I mean it's not 1-piece with the hub, in that it's just pressed in (or screwed in... it can be replaced at any rate). Therefore, it's possible to bugger it up in the way he has... Will Arnold
the ratchet ring threads have stripped, same thing happened to mine.i sent it to profile europe and they replaced everything that was haggard for 1/2 its retail price and didnt charge for labour, which is nice! even though they lost the hub twice whilst it was there Will
