comments much appreciated

if your thinking of spraying your bike too, all the advise i can give you is just be patient. you cannot spray a bike in 1 day without specialist equipment. it took ojust over 3 days to spray my bike and i am very happy with it.

if you need help just look at the posts other people have posted below. they are very helpful and helped me and i would like to thank them for helping me.

Sand the area you want sprayed with sand paper (no need to go to metal, just get the laquer off).

Spray the area qith a few coats of primer. (Leave to dry after each coat)

Once dry spray with a few coats of the paint. (Leave to dry after each coat)

Once dry spray with a few coats of laquer. (Leave to dry after each coat)

Also make sure you have enough paint, I didn't and ended up with lots of red spots (the primer was red) on a bike which was supposed to be pure black.

Hello this is how I sprayed my frame,

Step 1

Take your bike apart so your frame is bare (remove bottom bracket, headset cups etc)

Step 2

Sand down frame until the lacquer has been removed. No need to go to bare metal. To make this even easier I recommend using a electric sander. A black and decker mouse is good for this.

Step 3

Paint your frame with primer. For darker colours like black use red primer. For lighter colours like yellow use grey primer. Leave each coat of primer for 15 to 20 minutes between each coat. I recommend about 3 coats of primer.

Step 4

Leave primer to fully harden for 24 hours.

Step 5

Now with very fine sand paper gently roughen up the primer surface this will help the paint to stick better.

Step 6

Now you are ready to spray the colour onto your frame.

Step 7

Spray the colour onto your frame until no primer can be seen this is your first coat. Leave for 15 to 20 minutes. I again recommend 3 coats of colour.

Step 8

Leave colour to fully harden for 24 hours.

Step 9

Your are now ready to spray your lacquer.

Step 10

Spray your lacquer straight onto your paint surface. Leave each coat for 15 to 20 minutes. I again recommend 3 coats of lacquer.

Step 11

LEave lacquer to fully harden for 24 hours.

Step 12

After 3 days of spraying your frame is now ready to build.

Step 13

Build up your bike and go ride.

I hope this helps you man. I also recommend you cover over any threads on your frame. For example your magura mount thread and your bottom bracket threads. A good way to do this is mask them up.

Cheers

Matt

There are a few ways I have done this before,

1. Get a flat blade screwdriver just smaller than the size of the allen key head on the bolt. Place it in the bolt and smack is a few times hard with a hammer. You will now have groves in your bolt but you can get it in and out.

2. Glue an allen key to the bolt with super glue, leave it over night to dry and screw it out. Works everytime.

OR you could spray your frame with your choice of colour following the step by step guide i gave you. then mask up the frame around the bash and spray the bash a different colour.

Cheers Matt.

ive got one problem though, my bash plate bolts have been rounded off from the previous owner but i havent got a clue on how to get them out. any suggestions?

thanks

John K

An angle grinder is a good weapon of choose the is a possibility of you been able t o grind the bolts off, without damaging the bashplate.

If not if you take the bolt on its on at the front out then this will give a bit of slack on the rear two bolts and so you could use a hacksaw to saw them off.

Or even use a pair of pillars to grip the bolt head then turn it may need a bit off working but the should come out eventually.

Well the obvious one first 1) What you could do is wedge a thin long object underneath your screw head if you can and bang the handle the furthes at the end you can. As this is leverage it will be a lot easier!

2)Don't just keep turning it, it will only make it worse!

And 3)(This may be tricky but once you get it right its perfect) What i did once was stood the bike up straight and very gently unscrewed it without ading pressure and it slowly came undun and fell out

Hope i have helped Cheers BIG L (Y)

If you have a welder and are skilled at using it then welding a 'bulb' of weld onto the top of the bolt is a very good way to get out a siezed stud, once the weld has cooled then you will have something to get at with a pair of molegrips, spraying some penetrating oil on might help.

Whatever you do use to get your bolts out if they are siezed then you have to be very patient, work them out really slowly rocking it backwards and forwards applyng only the smallest amount of pressure, eventually the tiny bit of movement will become a reasonable amount and then it will eventually slide out like butter, you might want to retap them to be sure.
