ScotchDave
Right, heres what you do:On the driveside of the hub theres an alu cap, slide this off the axle, then grab the freehub body and turn in the freewheeling direction, while pulling away from hub body. It's best to do this over a tray or in a box so you don't lose the springs and pawls. Once it's open clean it up, put your chosen friction reducing substance in and put it back together.Enjoy. Mr Motivator
on my back wheel i use a hope bulb, and ive just bought new gears chain etc, i want to clean the hub before i put the new gear on, does anybody recommend good tips for cleaning or know of any good links, shall i dismantle the hub? and clean everything, im not sue what to do?thanks tom. First you need to take off your cassette (see "removing a cassette" above)2. With the cassette off, ease off the axle end part with a flat head screwdriver.3. Wrap a cloth around the base of the cassette shell and slowly pull the cassette shell away from the hub. The cloth will help to catch the springs and pawls inside. You dont need to take the axle out, allthough if you want it out, just tap it with a rubber mallet to remove it.4. Pick out all 3 of the springs and all 3 pawls and give them a good clean with some WD40 and a clean cloth. Also clean up the springs in the same way. You should check for any worn pawls or broken springs now, if you find any problems, stop now and contact hopetech.com to get some more!5. With a clean coth and WD40, clean out the ratchet inside the hub shell. Check for wear here too.6. With everything clean, add a few drops of Finishline wet xc to the springs, and a few drops inside the ratchet.7. Now apply a small amount of grease on the back of each pawl in and around the spring hole. Here I am using Park Tool pollylube, but any other good marine lube will do fine.8. Apply a small amount of grease where the pawls sit in the cassette shell.9. Carefully place all the pawls and springs back on the cassette shell. Check they are all the right way round!10. Use a finger on each pawl, to hold them in and slowly slide the cassette shell back into the hub.All done! Give it a quick spin to check it, and your away! You should service your hope hub every 3-6 months. All from my unfinished website ^^
