Tension On Mod

Hello all i need some help with my mod.

The thing is that i got a second hand wheel set of bill but the rear wheel did not come with the axle spacers that was the first thing got them now from a local bike shop. But the thing is that when i put the wheel on and the new chain i got and Tensile Freewheels on to my zona zip also i got new tugs to go with it all, but it just won't keep the tension in the chain and if it does it goes to one side of the frame more and then the brake rubs on the rim.

I have tried putting more tension on one side then the other to put the wheel over but then get to much tension in the chain, I tried moving the wheel with my hands to keep it in place but then it does not stay there for long and looses the tension again. Also i would try snail cams but i don't won't to be drilling my frame to fit them.

Please help.

Mate i have had this problem before with my zip. What chain tensioners are you using.?

I found that by getting some gusset ones of tartybikes helped. Bit heafty but strong as and they have held my wheel fine. (Y)

Only £8 aswell.

Cheers !

There the ones i got when i ordered my new freewheel and chain but they do the job but the chain just looses tension. So i don't know was going on.

They don't do their job then do they? :S

Just try what somebody said before, tighten the tensioners before the wheel (Y)

I have tried putting more tension on one side then the other to put the wheel over but then get to much tension in the chain...

Instead of tightening one side, loosen the other.

Here's what I find works :

Ride the bike around a little, this is to make sure the chain is at its longest, it stretches out a tiny bit when your riding.

Loosen the wheel bolts, then set the chain tension roughly and center the wheel with the chain tugs.

Tighten the wheel bolts loosely (loosely in this case means just untill you feel resistance, or about an eigth of a turn after everything is pulled together), do a few backhops, then re-center the wheel.

Now, check the chain tension. Spin the cranks as there may be a tight spot. Loosen the wheel bolts again and set the tension that you want by turning both chain tugs the same ammount, this way the wheel will remain straight.

Tighten the wheel bolts loosely, do a few backhops, then you'll probably find the chain is looser, so tighten it a bit with the wheelnuts still done up loosely before tightening the wheelnuts.

You may loose tension after a while for a number of reasons, such as the chain stretching, or bolts moving. I find that this gets less and less likely to happen after time. When I first got my bike the wheel used to move to one side when I was kicking hard on the pedals, and I had to re-tension the chain and center the wheel a number of times, but every time it moved less, and in the end stopped.

Renember to set up the brakes again after moving the wheel too!

Hope I've helped and that you sort the problem.
