Finally Specing Out My Bike

Recommended Posts

Im going with the simtra frame and i need to build it up with the right parts. I know this is personal preference, and i would like to hear your preference.

-What fork is best for that frame?

-What wheels should i get? Im thinking try all. but which ones? I also want to put a cassette on there so i can have a few gears to chose from.

-I am going with the Hope trials disc brakes front AND rear. Unless they will slip in the rear, will they?

-I think i will go with the truvativ holsfieller cranks but dont know if they still make the trials version.

-I will go with Easton or Specialized bars.

Any other recomendations are welcome.

Thanks,

-Ryan

i have no idea what frame that is, but most of the questions you asked are pretty general

forks wise: canondale fatty r or echo urban are my favourite choices, if you are on a budget, check out the onza range of forks for value :) my fly guys that came with my zoot seem to be pretty good-light and dont grumble when i twat them hard

wheels: really cant grumble with the new hope pro2 trials hubs-im really happy with mine and it pisses all over my old king. the hope lets you run a 6 speed cassette-so keeps with comp rules (Y) definately get one

for the rims, i would choose mavix ex721 rims everytime on a stock, however they dont have much width and the majority cant hack that-onza and alex do about the strongest wide rims out, check out a reggie/ronnie combo by onza, or a dx32/dm24 combo by alex-lace them up with dt swiss double butted spokes and jobs a good'un (Y)

brakes: i dont really like monotrials, all the one si have used, including my own, have just been inconsistant and arent really worth the extra money over an avid bb7-this is your best bet up front, they are super powerful and combined with a decent cable and lever combo (linear slick and xtr) feel amazing-far better than a hope. as for the rear, again, i wouldnt recomend a mono trial, im not totally won over by rear discs, rim brakes are far more dependable, but again, if you want a rear disc, get a bb7 (Y)

cranks: middleburns everytime, the truvative cranks are pretty hefty, but also solid performers, ive had no troubles with them and they are cheap as chips-so on a budget they are a good choice. the tensile range is pretty darn good too, but ive never personally owned any long enough to judge as my bike got stolen that had them on :(

bars: easton bars are a solid dependable choice, ive had a few sets and really liked them, currently i use azonic doublewalls, they feel sooooooo good and come in a decent selection of rises-main reason i run them is cos i needed a 2.5inch rise of which easton dont offer
