Not The Bee's Knees

The last couple of months or so my knees have been hurting when riding and they feel quite stiff. I don't feel as 'bouncy' or 'loose' as I used too, if you know what I mean!

I am getting old ...haha But seriously I taking my more effort to do things (especially gaps, sidehops stuff, all static moves really) as it feels harder to compress. :(

They have always hurt to a degree, but normally just the day after a long ride and when climbing stairs and they have been fine later in the day or the day after.

I am booking a docs appointment in the next week or so and have start taking cod liver oil (for the past few weeks). just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or has any advice, maybe some specific stretches would help out!

Any advice would be great.

Ta

Mike

Or ask Si, who's username here is Physio.

heya mate

if you are having joint problems, take it from me, get it sorted out as soon as possible.

i am out of riding at the moment, i dislocated my knee after experiencing some pain whilst riding which infact was a ligament going laxed (i have strong legs aswell) but it dowsnt matter how strong your legs are as i found out.

go and see a physiotherapist as it could be a sinple stretched ligament or get a bit more serious like a tear in the cartilidge, i remember my doctor saying that knees do two things, stop us from falling over and hurt,

wish you all the luck mate because i know what its like but ill be out again in a month!!

toby

I had the same thing, and mine are nice and crunchy too. Cod liver oil didn't really benefit my knees (but did benefit other stuff), but glucosamine sulphate did. Glucosamine chondroitin's pretty rinky dink too.

Let me know what the doc says though :-

i have osgoodslatters in my knees it could be that. it sort of makes your knees stiff all the time even after streching and it pulls the bonne out from just below your knee so have a look under your knee for any big lumps

try and get your mits on a set of those steel replacement ones, i hear they're really smooth, ^_^

just like warm up and strech well before and whilst riding, (not literlly when your riding, but like when your watching someone else, or having a break) seems to work for my shoulders and wrists (Y)(Y)

thanks for all the advice guys, i went to see the docs today for something else, but asked about my knees while i was there (no harm in doing so) and he couldn't see anything wrong, but reccomeded me to a physio to check me over so got an appointment :)

been trying to stretch and warm up too, anyone got a link to a site with good stretches on? i wanna make sure i am doing ones that will actually help.

(Y) first port of call for me ANYDAY now, is always the Physio.

(obviosly not for colds :P )

but anything that is achy or painful with regards to joints or muscles, its straight to the Physio, the one i see is awsum and luckily is extremly good with ankles and knee's. so the main injury i have had with my ankle has been sorted well quick, and with the best advice too.

also mike, you need a "Sports" physio not a "walking physio" lol  a good sports phsio will sort you out in no time, a physio from a hospital will NOT be good enough. trust me. iv heard poor remarks from people who have been to hospital physios etc etc.

PS iv had problems with "hospital physios" when i did my ankle, didnt trust what he had said, so went to the Physio Akrigg uses and got sorted. was well worth the £££ to go to an independant sports physio.
