If your learning them, start low and work up, 35" maybe if you can already backwheel bar height straight up, start on that.

Try about 2" below the top, then hit it lower if you need more oopmh.

I doubt youll ride into it, I rarely do it, and bunnyhop into them like a spaz..

i've never ever faceplanted or not gone up while tapping, nothing to worry about, when you are learning at about 35-36" make sure you don't just lift the front because this will be the wrong technique.

try:

slow pedal

tuck

lift the front with bad foot

tap the front wheel about 2"below the top[

kick/explode with power

tuck

jump up and forwards

be proud of yourself for making your first tap

BTW i never used to tap, and my front wheel was getting too close for me to backwheel anyhigher, so a mate just told me to try a tap, I did it first time, kept to back wheel. so really just don't worry about it mate.

I am going to start tapping tomorrow, considering to learn on bar height or maybe just over.

S**t scared of hitting to short and face planting though :S

If you're riding near here tomorro i'll give you a hand. I need to get back into doing them again as i got bored of them and found bunnyhopping up things a much more fun challenge. I'm weird like that i can bunnyhop up nearly everything i've tapped :S .

when i used to ride stock when i taped,

i used to ride at the wall and lift my front wheel up as if i was riding up a quarter pipe then slam wheel into wall inch or two below wall edge and give a big jump that used to get meh up pretty high :)

just need to get he technique dialed realy

42" is quite high to start tapping on, bar height is always a good start but 1 thing I've realised recently is that the whole technique changes the higher you go! It seems quite easy and simple to do bar height because its just like bunnyhopping/wheeliehopping but much easier to get the height.

On bigger stuff, the technique is much like a bunnyhop but with pedalling. The aim is to get a rythmn where the bump/tap (more of a bump) to actually carry you up the wall! Trying to visualise always helps (see TRA's article) maybe someone that has a good technique...then start off not too far away from the wall because you want to go up not forwards! Hit the wall at a comfortable angle where you then explode into the bars with your hips (the key) and extend your arms and feet ready to land. Remember NO FRONT BRAKE. Then you will end up stacking it.

Hope i've helped - took me ages to work that lot out.

Bunnyhopping is all about brute force.

I could bunnyhop my coust with 120x5 stem, no stackers. And I was 5'7" or something. It's all about giving it some beans. Also, try and pop the back wheel up an inch before pulling the front wheel up (just like when learning backhops, but with speed), it does wonders. Looks retarded though.
