i recently started wearing a helmet (i thought it never suited me) bt as i must wear one in competitions i thought i may aswell wear it outside competitions.

i feel its giving me a little bit of a confidence boost when riding.

whats your opinions?

I feel a bit more confident in a helmet, for stuff where I could easily hit my head, e.g. gap to rail or something and I don't keep it to back wheel, not that I go near rails..

Still worth it, shinpads never bother me, I can't honestly say that hitting your shin hurts *that* much does it?

i always wear a helmet.

but i find that i ride better when i dont wear one, i know it seem weird but its true. i guess i think if i put this helmet on i'm going to fall. but if i dont, i wont fall.

tis weird :P

I always wear one, glad i do now, side hopped of 5foot ledge, front wheel got caught, and i fell onto my head. IF i wasnt wearing my helmet, i would be in intensive care, with a mushed head! ;)

Have one, but don't wear it, it's just too warm during the summer, and riding along at 5mph on a bike with tiny wheels isn't all that dangerous. I couldn't be bothered with having it in a bag either, my tool bag and shit goes in there.

I know I should though, and might get a decent one with good vent's...

I never used to in the first year or so I was riding but since I (without trying to sound up my ass, because I'm nothing special) was capable of doing things where I could seriously hurt myself I have always worn a lid. It's not worth becoming a vegetable over some arrogance.

I can't ride with out my helmet ... when i first got mine it helped me loads as i new if i hit my head i would be saved, but when i was riding with out a helmet i was allways a bit iffy about doing something.

It boosts your confidence up alot and you'll feel that you'll be able to go bigger.

Its not the cycling along... If you seen the photo's of my bake you would understand.

Helmet only thing that stopped that incident from becomming a fractured skull or death!

yup - always the lid when Im out serious riding.

I flat out can't afford a head injury any more - fractured skulls are unpleasant things to have at the best of times but I've got responsibilities these days and I don't think my health insurance covers doing stupid things on bikes.

if hitting your shin doesn't hurt you're not doing it properly (Y)

Riding around at 5 mph to riding spots isnt the dangerous bit.Do you actually do any trials riding then lol.Thats mostly what trials is about danger and trying new things.

Haha. I must be doing it properly because it hurts like f**k to me.

Anyway, I'm with Smo. It's better to look a pillock in a helmet and have your skull intact than wanting to look cool with half your brain hanging out.

Always (Y)

Ive had all kinds of pricks approach me while ive been out riding, but without a doubt the biggest nobs are the other cyclists that take the piss out of me for wearing a helmet <_< You would think that of al people they would understand the need for it.

Its not even about being good enough to not crash or knowing how to bail or whatever. Parts fail unpredictably, especially in trials, ive had chain snaps, bar snaps, freewheels explode, and brakes slip. None of that you could predict and the helmet makes ALL the difference.

I've recently bought shin an elbow pads but havent been wearing them , just my helmet seems to do the trick. I guess it's just about what you value the most . A slight knock to the head an bang your a potato.

Just try an find ones that are comfortable and you like and always wear them regardless of what anyone says

Always were my helmet, because whenever i have hit my head in the past it hasn't been on something big or new, just something small and stupid it dosen't bother me, its quite comfy and ventilated. I use to wear shin guards all the time after one or two shin digs, but now I cant be bothered.

I won't constantly wear my helmet although i usually sling it in my bag when i go for a ride for trying new/big things. It seems silly to wear it constantly. also on a slightly random note i saw or heard somewhere that full face helmets can cause whiplash? meh

Thats what I used to do. Then I managed to fall off a wall only a foot high and hurt my head. I learnt my lesson from that, wouldn't really ride anything with out one now.

Started wearing mine after a mate of mine who i'll leave un-named for his stupidity (smelly joe) tried to side hop off a 3ft wall, stuffed up and cracked his head open. blood everywhere etc etc, me and a mae had to take him to hospital with im constantly asking us what happened and how he had cut his head

I can't ride confidently without my helmet now
