Woot, got my car. 95 Punto.

Now ive started with the sound system. Got my 6x9's mounted on the parcel and am looking to link up the wires from the existing back speakers to my 6x9's. How do i do it? lol I'm guessing just link up the wires, but the wires going to the existing speakers are connected with a plastic block that i can unplug, but it doesnt fit on my 6x9's. Take off the plug and wire myself?

I duno, help me please lads :)

Best way to wire 6x9s is as follows:

1) Get a hammer

2) Get a screw driver

3) Find a nice flat surface

4) Prise them out the car with the screw driver

5) Put them on flat surface

6) Smash the shit out of them with hammer

Agreed (Y)

surely just cut the plastic connector off the old speaker, strip some of the sleaving away and cimp a spade/bullet connector that fits the 6*9's and just plug them up

might not be the best idea, but better than some sarky shit

But on a more serious note go with what this guy has said, just cut the connector off and extend the wire using a bit of wire and a connector.

I had to do the same thing in my almera, Rip the plastic plug off the old speaker, it'll still go to + and a _ so just solder a short length of cable into these and run it off those, if you need a photo let me know.

Yea, that's what i've done. Shame my hu is a piece of shit.

If its so shit why did you buy a pair of 6x9's? To further increase the shite sound?

Seriously why did you not save a few more pennies and get a better hu second hand?

Or even better, spend the same money you wasted on the 6x9s ad bought some front speakers?!?!?

I just DO NOT get why people go for 6x9s over fronts. Sheer idiocy (word?)

When you go to a gig, does the bad play behind you???

Sure, you guys all know better than everyone else! I'll tell you, 6x9's were not invented because they did not make your car audio sound better. And they are still manufactured, which means they are still in demand, which means people are willing to buy them because they work!

God for powerful low-mid range which is semi non-directional anyway they are brilliant. My sound system has stock front speakers, and are set with a high bottom cut off freq so that the 6x9's take the rest. Play some decent guitar through that and it's intense as hell  !

You simply don't know what you are talking about if you say 6x9's are good for nothing! B)

To be fair, your right. Its not actually the 6x9's that are the problem, its the situ.

The parcel shelf of a car IS NOT, no matter how you look at it the place for a pair of speakers. It rattles, its not sealed etc

But one speaker trying to do 3 things isnt good either.......

Although if the parcel shelf is a custom one, maybe made from some decent ply wood (less saggy than mdf, is a nice snug fit on the guides and doesn't rattle. You might find that for people who don't want a sub/amp etc it is the ideal was of creating the decent amount of mid and low range frequencies whihc are needed to have enjoyable music sounds coming out of your stereo.

No ones gonna go claiming they are like the answer to audiophilles problems, but for the average Jo they are actually more ideal than the alternatives.

I know that in my old car (wehn i had 6*9) the sound was immmensley crisp and clear. You got to consider the situation is different in all cars, things like the angle of the window will make a difference on how the sound reaches you etc.

Any way, you just bought a convertable! hardly the ideal car for a decent audio set up! although i do actualy like the MX-5 and don't consider you a hairdresser for it.

Extreme Biker - as said just cut and strip the wires from the old speakers for now, you can buy the little connectors which you can crimp on from most car shops/b&q etc that will do for now so that you can unconnect the speakers if you need to take the shelf out.
