Greetings
That FXX lap was insane It just shows that Ferrari still has it in their blood. I like what they've done with the Stig identity, they kinda told you who he is but still leave you wondering. Personally I don't give a toss about who he is, when they were going to reveal his identity I was rather disappointed.Either way, that was the first time that the first episode of the series didn't turn out to be crap. The race wasn't my cup of tea, but it was interesting and somewhat factual.
JT!
I've just watched this episode.Micheal is OBVIOUSLY not the Stig - it's just a big joke, everyone who's getting all pissy about it, did you not watch the end? But then again i'm talking to the same people who believed that a PM came on this forum to let us all now trials was going to be made illegal... Edited June 22, 2009 by JT! Muel
He was an MP and no-one believed for a second, the story had too many holes. Was funny to carry it on and see how far it would go though.
F-Stop Junkie
I'm quite happily to believe it was Michael in the FXX, as it is *his* FXX. It was the same with the Maserati MC12, the owner donned the white getup to do the fast lap. Same with Heikki Kovalinen in the Renault...Does it matter? It's just a running joke really. I can't believe how seriously people take it.As for the races, have you noticed how they rarely mention the margin of victory? The GT-R/Bullet train one was close, as was the 612 going to Verbier, but the Veyron race? That could have been a couple of hours between them quite easily. Same with the one last night, or the Merc SLR going to somewhere in Scandanavia. Apparently what they do as well is race, the go back and shoot insert shots when they have time to properly set them up and so on, which can account for changes in light/weather. It also depends which bits are used for editing, last night an interior shot from the Jag could have been in the rain, but not nearly as noticeable as an exterior of Hammond on the bike.At the end of the day, it's an entertainment show, and a good one at that. Can't wait for the Ken Block episode
Mark W
For some of the race Hammond was pretty far behind anyway - meaning he could've been getting pissed on without it affecting the others? Bearing in mind the weather here can be doing one thing, and 7 miles down the road where my Mum teaches it can be doing something totally different, I'd imagine over a 400 mile race with competitors spread out virtually anything could be happening... Which can also mean you go in the Portsmouth side of the Petersfield tunnel (while on the train) and it be lovely, and then come out the other side and it be drizzly and horrible.Strange stuff! adamtrials
I can't believe how many people in here still thought the stig was Schumaker after the ending In semi related news we may be trading our supercharged Elise for an Evora, my dad hasn't been able to get a test drive yet to see if he likes it... Hobnobs
Pff, get a 2eleven if you're going to buy a lotus, who needs a roof. Loved the fact that the exige was faster round the track than the evora though. Edited June 22, 2009 by Hobnobs

adamtrials
Pff, get a 2eleven if you're going to buy a lotus, who needs a roof.Someone who drives it most days...And the exige would beat the evora, they're a totally different type of car Also I'm pretty sure my dad's elise is faster than the Exige S, same power and it's lighter if I remember right, the exige would beat it on the track but they're useless on the road. Hobnobs
Yeah i realise its a track car vs a 2+2, but its also a 50k 2+2. An M3 was faster too, so what does the evora do well? Edit: I realise im fighting a losing battle here, as obviously the evora loves going round corners. Just not a fan of it. adamtrials
It's got seats in the back, so it's a practical performance car with supercar looks. Great for 40something guys with several kids who still want to pose...Kinda like the 911, but better if the reviews are to be believed. Several of my dad's friends went from elise to 911 and back to an elise/ exige 'cos the 911s just aren't as much fun.
Gandalf the Yellow
Do you actually think that when they're being taught the racing line on the track, they'd be taught by the Stig in character?yes because most of the guests have no racing experience whatsoever and they're expected to do a good lap time within a day, i'd like to see you try doing it with no help? would you really know when to give power and brake, steer etc? no.. probably not..steve
Has anyone seen my shoe?
He wasn't saying they don't get taught, because they clearly do. He was saying that he doubts they get taught by the stig in character. Remember Stigs character doesn't actually talk. He's saying that they get taught by whoever the stig is just without the white suit on.

Fast pace music, quick dynamic shots and all of a sudden the viewer thinks they're all going neck and neck.
Jonny Jones
Stripped out track car faster round track than 2+2 coupe shocker...I was fortunate enough to be part of the crew filming a documentary about the making of the Evora, ie behind the scenes where 99% of Lotus employees were not allowed, and I thought it was gonna be an epic car. Im not so sure now, not since seeing the new Esprit
Haz
5th Gear is incredibly dull and far less informative than a decent magazine. Drivers Republic is the driver's choice. DR is the best online source, but in terms of terrestrial televison, 5th gear is about the best show on there.Of minor note is that on this weeks 5th gear one of the presenters gets taught to ride some mototrials by Dougie Lampkin. Not exactly ground breaking considering VBH did it last year but could be amusing nonetheless. That's Ross Noble, he's not a presenter, he's a comedian. monkeyseemonkeydo
That's Ross Noble, he's not a presenter, he's a comedian. I only saw a 2 second clip on an advert the other day- recognised Dougie and just guessed it would be a presenter. I was wrong .

Remember Stigs character doesn't actually talk.
