Anybody else think James May is the best person on there now?

Top gears turned into to much of a novelty now IMO, just full of small jokes and what not. Don't get me wrong, I reckon last nights was great, but it's got nothing on what it was a few years back.

I was sat at my friends house last watching this and I said the exact same thing.

Jeremy just tries too hard to be controversial at every opportunity, Hammond just seems to act like Jeremys spastic mate on each episode...James May is the only one who seems to be on the programme because he likes it, rather than just trying to climb the celebrity ladder and up himself.

the tesla i thought was clever in 1 way, but its just pointless, loads of power, great but too expensive and might as well just get a petrol, it doesn't solve any of the problems we're having today.

really hope the new technology can be introduced in the UK or all around the world as soon as possible. i'd definitely get rid of whatever i'll be driving at the time for it.

Thats not true. They have actually produced a fully electric car that drives well, and is pretty swift. The only reason it has batteries and not a fuel cell like the Honda is because its a small / tiny company, and the cost of developing a fuel cell system is vast. So now imagine the tesla without half a ton of laptop batteries in it but instead with a fuel cell in it. Which car is the winner now ? Its pretty amazing they did it at all.

Anyway - I was a bit pissed off with that episode - especially as they have done fuel cell cars on the program before (and apparently its bigger news this time around ...)

Fuel cells have been around for ages - but why do the car companies need to invest a shed load of cash developing them when people are pretty happy with what they have and oil isnt going to run out any time soon... ?

I seem to recall something about emissions and global warming, but i could be wrong...

The problem with Top Gear is that it's really difficult to name the best presenter. The cast is so perfect that taking away any of those three would completely ruin the show.

It's a bit like this, get me?

As for the Tesla I agree that it's pointless. It is impressive but if you think about it nobody will really want to use it. It is a remarkable achievement but it just won't catch on with hydrogen fuel cells around.

you know what...i seem to recall this..maybe on old topgear and clarkson actually tried drinking the water that was produced from the exhaust pipe?

anyway, fair enough it might have been introduced before, but did it take off from then and actually put into production? - clearly not. think the reason why they covered the new FCX its because it is a full on production car that people are actually buying and driving in the US. it is reality that ordinary people own in their every-day life not just a lab experiment.

steve

p.s. electric powered 'sports' car are pointless because if you can afford that sort of money you can just get ordinary sports car and whack petrol in, more fun, costs less probably in the long run and handles better.

it's just a case of showing off, it's not practical and doesn't fill any demands of the market, and this is a good reason why tesla will stay a small company and never really grow.

Surely you've taken into account, combine the two technologies that tesla and honda are useing, and you have a potential super car, with no drawbacks? No? I cannot see why anyone would not want to invest serious money into this, sure initially the cost will be massive, but think of the potential profits. You have the. first green car which can spank anything else on the market, i know if i was a millionaire thats the first thing i would buy.

Edit: Electric engines have a straight torque curve according to what i've heard, so low down think of the power!! Im pretty sure anyone with a turbo will cry a river.

if i was a millionaire i certainly would buy 1 too, but i'd never use it cos i can spank my money on a veyron.

ohhhh and i can't wait for the release of audi R8 TDI ;) im sure the sales of that will be higher than any electric powered 'sports/super car'

to be honest, if i was a millionaire i simply wouldn't care about the environment. its an insignificant number of population in the world.

those problems have been around for a long time, as have fuel cells.

what I meant was there is/was no drive for the car companies to develop them (but there are plenty of reasons why people would want them) - as they would A. have to develop a fuel cell = ££££££££££££, B. Electric motor / drive system = ££££££££££ and probably more importantly C. a hydrogen filling station infrastructure = £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ ... wheras they could stick to making pretty decent yearly growth and profit on good old fashioned oil burning cars ...

no way would a car company take that on on their own - that is why it has taken sooooooo long for decent electric cars / fuel cell cars to come about. I would imagine that a fuel company has gone in on the project (big hit) and probably some government funding too ? ...
