Wrayvon
Noice! I was thinking of going down the Q8400 route, but decided that I might aswell spend the extra £200 and get DDR3 ram and an AM3 socket processor.I can't get it overclocked though! It keeps crashing and being ghey, I can't get the voltages right. I got it to 3.8, but no further. It kept crashing, so now it's back to stock, and that was based on an overclock profile aswell, I'm going to learn to do it manually, hopefully I can get it to 4ghz. 200 extra, crikey! I don't think I'll be making the change to DDR3/I7 until they lower the timings on the ram. They still seem rather high! I know its still better than DDR2 as it is though Yeah overclocking should be done manually really then you can tweak it to whatever the system needs. I have only starting overclocking this last year or so as before that I didn't have a clue how to do it!Sounds like a nice system though mr muel Why on earth would you go AMD?AMD aren't shit like they used to be spec of PC:Intel® Core™ i7-920 Mainstream 2.66GHz 8MB Cache 750 Watt Alienware® Approved Multi-GPU Power Supply 1.8BGB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260 6GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 3 x 2048MB Intel® X-58 Motherboard- Socket 1366 Core i7 Ready, Dual Triple Channel DDR3 Memory 750GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPMNice. D0 or C0 stepping? You really should overclock it, the i7's are reknown for being good. 4ghz should be easily reachable if its D0.
Muel
Why on earth would you go AMD?Because I have slightly over half a brain. My CPU was £160, is 3.4ghz standard, and can be clocked to 4ghz with relative ease, and because I went for the AMD, it cost about £100-150 less than going i7.I also fancied something new, I've always had Intel and this is a fecking rocket ship. And they run very, very cool, I tested it using Prime95 for an hour, it wouldn't go over 43C at 3.82ghz.I like AMD a lot now though, and it's called the Phenom II 965 Black Edition, which is dead dead cool. haydon_peter
My computer died a few weeks ago so I decided to use a recent tax rebate to build a new system.Coolermaster Elite 330 Midi Tower Case - Black (No PSU)Enermax Liberty 400w Modular PSUGigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 MotherboardIntel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.60GHz (800FSB)Akasa AK-965 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 6400C4 800MHz Dual ChannelGainward GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics CardSamsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB CacheSamsung SH-S223BBEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)I was on a budget, the total came to about £350 posted from OCUK. I already had the PSU.I will probably end up over clocking the system although I am happy right now because its much faster than my previous 5 year old system! A quick bit of research tells me that I should be able to over clock the E5300 to 3.5GHz fairly easily. My priority is adding a front 120mm fan and sorting out the annoying noisy GFX fan!Has anyone had any experience using passive VGA coolers? I am planning to fit an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev.

I can tell it's 500 watts by this:Logitech have used their previous expertise with the award winning Z-680 system and improved it in every aspect. By upgrading everything from the subwoofer to the surround speakers and adding new technology like real-time digital sound equalization. The outcome is the Logitech Z-5500 Digital, a THX-certified, 500-watt 5.1 surround sound speakers system that offers everything you could possibly want… Edited October 15, 2009 by Hendrix
