Matthew_Gibson
I've stripped the threads in one on the brake mounts on my bike. I need to get it sorted pretty fast, as I have a week off school! Any ideas, I thought I could get some new mounts made and get some one to weld them on, would that work?Cheers Matt!!!

Mark W
You'd be a lot better off getting it helicoiled. Tapping it means that you've still got semi-weak threads (compared to a helicoil), and that you have to drill out your spacers, booster and brake clamps.Helicoiling is cheap and easy, and will leave you with stronger threads. I believe you need an M5 x 0.8 helicoil kit, or you could just take it to your local car mechanics, or maybe even bikeshop. If you want a crack at it yourself, I hear it's not so hard to do, so just google a kit online. Shouldn't cost you more than £15-20, whichever way you go about doing it
Matthew_Gibson
I believe you need an M5 x 0.8 helicoil kit, or you could just take it to your local car mechanics. The threads in the frame when I bought it were 2 M5 and 2 M6, so my dad tapped them both out to M6. So... its all good, My dads just gone to buy one now! Woot! lol! But £25 for 4 holes is a bit much like! I was going to see if any one has one on here but it doesn't matter! Cheers Boys!!!
Ash-Kennard
I stripped 3 of the threads in my echo control in the first week due to the bolts being too short. so borrowed a helicoil kit and now its better then new with no problems at all
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Drill right through the frame and out the bottom, and bolt the mounts on

Get it helicoiled, that's the best you can do for your bike. After a few months you'll forget you ever had it done. In addition to this, a steel insert will be more durable than the original threads. Had it done in a Python last year, now Dr Greenthumb is riding it and I believe he's had no problems whatsoever.
