Looks awesome, and that colour really sets it off :o Really, really nice (Y)

Just wondering, as i was considerring getting a frame off Iolo, how it rides, although that's dependant on the geometry, but how strong and solid does it feel....? Is there much frame flex? I'm asking this because the tubing does look a bit thin.

Other than that looks really nice :)

the tubing is thin because its steel :S steel tubes do not have to be as big as aluminium to retain the same amount of strength.

It's fantastic to ride, really get on well with it - instantly clicked. :)

The frame's incredibly stiff! Very little flex, which is just what I like - also going from the "push down sideways on pedal" test, it's much more so than my Control '05. :)

Very happy with it.

  • 2 weeks later...

oh my god, I really, really want a new frame now, f**k the control, its just too boring.

I want to see how long these frames last, im guessing a while though.

EDIT: if it does break I'm guessing it will go in the space between the booster and the seat tube.

I missed this post when it first came out it seems

Anyway, loving the overall look of it, the dark grey with orangy colours, does look the job.

Im just a little puzzled on the way some of the joints have been done, and some of the brazing doesnt look the nicest.

I dont undertand why the seatstays are cut and brazed back together at an angle (same goes with the Leeson frames). Surely its far easier to bend them, and a hell of a lot stronger (ive noticed a lot of the Leeson frames snap there).

Id have thought a better join could also be made to fit the seatstays to the dropouts. It just looks a bit awkward the way its done.

The gussets. Im guessing from Mikes little sketch that he requested these, but the position on the top tube/down tube gusset is all wrong. According to what I have read and picked up, a single gusset in the centre of two tubes, as on this frame, is as good as useless. Gussets like that only become effective when brazed on the side of the tubes, much like whats found on the Curtis frames. I also dont think the one connecting the top tube to headtube is long enough either :ermm:

And the brazing, surely they could have been cleaned up before completion. Powdercoating has a tendancy to smooth over brazing, so they cant be that neat underneath.

Just a few points I have been wondering, not just on this frame but the other IOLO frames you have posted up. Its not a dig, Im just curious. I am very impressed how you can manufacture a T45 frame with all the trimmings and powdercoat etc for such a competitve price, I know its not cheap and very time consuming from my own attempts.

Arron :)

Just like to point out that yes the frame has cracked at the driveside chainstay yolk.

This was the 1st time Aran had done this type of yolk, and as with most early ideas it didn't work to well, so obviously he is going to fix it free of charge at his expence. Can't ask much more than that. (Y)

just a quick note in defence of iolo, before the majority of tf go slagging his frames off, remember each frame is unique and made to the customers request-unfortunately mikes frame suffered from some defects design wise, hence the snappage-pity really cos it did look really nice in the metal :)

although i must say, the brazes really could of done with some tidying up, some parts of it had hardly any braze at all-it was a little inconsistant
