Xbox 360

On that note WHY THE f**k have nintendo called the 'revolution' the 'Wii'.

What genius suggested that?

The machine, until now code-named "Revolution", has been renamed "Wii".

The new name, pronounced "we", has been chosen to show "that the new console is for everyone", according to Nintendo.

(from bbc news last month)

I personally wouldn't bother with a 360.. Just wait until the PS3

What do people think about the decision to remove the rumble in the controller to allow the motion sensors?

Rumble pissed me off most of the time. What do the motion sensors do?

Never really liked nintendo, have always been a sony kid. Despite that, i do love the xbox, so im sure i would love the 360.

Whats the Wii got to offer?

Wii's controller thingy looks cool, but i think the PS3 sounds better in terms of power, and games. Nintendo games always seemed quite childish...

Says in that article twice as powerful, 2 teraflops or something, whatever they are. Graphics card sounds pretty nuts, it can run two HD displays :o

Decision? Click here they pretty much had to take the rumble technology after facing those massive fines :-

So the PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1/2 games but you will have no rumble features for them (which for years they said was the future of feeling in games) through the PS3 pad?

Where as the 360 Pad is wireless and has a great rumble sensor, and the Wii controller will be wireless have rumble, motion sensor and a speaker all on the controller..

Few things..

Everyone said about the power of the PSP vs. DS last time round and that power and graphics = good games but ultimately theres been next to no great games on PSP so obviously system power is not the determining factor in having good games.

The PS3 games will also be SO expensive to make meaning there will be less choice of games, they will mostly be generic shooter A and generic driving game B, the motion sensor on the controller will add a few new ideas to games but ultimately they fully ripped off Nintendo's ideas and they probably wont be executed nearly as well.

Nintendo for most people will still have the childish image but there games are evolving to be used by all ages and that is there main hope/purpose in the new console, back in the day with the SNES all ages bought into games with titles ranging from kids to killer instinct etc.

Lastly the PS3 now can't output 2 HD displays as one of the HDMI ports they originally said would be there was removed to save cost because basically who the hell has 2 HD Tv's in the same room anyway? Loads of other things were scaled down/cut for these reasons too.

So Olly, as you're probably the most objective/clued up console dude on the forum - which do you think, out of all 3, would be the best purchase? This is assuming that they're all available...

Obviously there's shite loads to take into account when coming up with an answer to that - so make it nice and long winded ;)

Are there likely to be any games that are made for one specific console or will they be more widespread? Because for me, it's always been about the games themselves and the controller/controller ports - graphics aren't that essential, as long as the game play is there.

Yea that'd probably be more on the forum.

Its hard to say really because alot of people obviously like playstation, but the PS3 is on a whole other level not so much in a good way either. It has a severly jacked up price for a games console the reason for this is mainly because they decided to go with Blu-Ray and it cost them alot to do so, now not every gamer is going to really want/use this Blu-Ray player since there usually quite happy with the quality of DVD's these days so its kind of an extra wad of cash for something you wouldn't use..

Say you did want to go for the PS3 because you think it'll have more titles.. think of it this way you quite litterally could buy BOTH a Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii with the money that'd it cost for the PS3 with those to consoles you'd have a MASSIVE selection of games from a huuge range of genre's, you'd have a more standard console (360) for the latest Pro Evo's, Movie Titles, Car games, FPS games, whatever your used to Microsoft will provide you with it along with the big guns like GTA 4 and Halo 3. You'd also have to option of upgrading to HD-DVD's if that intrests you.. but then you'd also have a great fun console (Wii) with games that you've never played before experiencing a totally different side to gaming that'd probably feel quite refreshing as the DS has proved to be on the handheld front.

The Wii will be able to hook up with the DS, it will have a constant online service for game additions and updates etc, it will have a huuge back catalogue of games from Sega, Nintendo and many 3rd party retro publishers through there Virtual Console so you can enjoy the great classics again if thats for you.

The 360 will be able to link with Windows, your mobile phone, and all kinds of stuff PC/Media realated for all kinds of reasons, its got a great online service thats only getting better, apparently you'll be able to get Sky+ through your 360 in the future and stuff like that so loads of possiblities.

The PS3 will have a brand new network hub online service as its got no previous onlive service to build on (unlike Live on Xbox/360) it'll be linkable with the PSP (meh..) and play the new technology Blu-Ray disks ($$$) think thats about all the intresting stuff..

So ultimately its a pretty big step to purchase a PS3 when you could get both the others for the same price and end up with 10x the possibilties 10x the games and probably 10x the fun..

Its hard to say a definative one to own right now since only one is out but thats only in its early stages i'd say.. Could try and type some more but most probably won't read so I'll just answer questions that come up.

Olly.

Whilst that Wii controller looks pretty cool, I really can't see myself using it seriously at all. I just can't imagine sitting (or standing I guess) in my front room waving something around in the name of computer games.

Theres other controllers for it too though for more conventional games etc (Y)

Nintendo have announced that the Wii will only cost £130! That's less than a 1/3 of PS3 price!

I've always been a PS boy.. But in the last few days I've been reading loads about the next gen consoles and i think I am actually going to go for the 360 now!

It just seems like the sensible thing (the ps3 & games are going to be soo expensive!)

[PS3] SCEE has 'no knowledge' of plans to change business model

Words: Oliver Hurley

Thursday 25 May 2006

Further to our article yesterday that high street games shops have been told by Sony that there will be no PS3 pre-owned sections in their stores, a Sony Europe representative has responded with a further - albeit brief - comment.

Their statement reads in full: "These rumours are unfounded and, to my knowledge, SCEE has no plans to change our business model to adopt such a system."

We'll keep you posted as soon as we hear any more on this intriguing story - whether from retail or Sony itself.

I also heard something about the CD's were going to be some special type, so when they are first read, they can only be played by that console, and no other. So you can't go round friends and play games and shit.

Don't think its true mind. :P

Its a shame microsoft didnt make the motion sensor with the 360 :(
