watto
Right well i went to single speed conversion a while ago , basically im to tight to buy a 'proper' chain tensioner so i used my mech but i found these makes the chain bounce a round alot and made my drivetrain feel rough whilst pedalling. Whilst having a tinker about with her tonite i took off the top jockey wheel and ran the chain underneath it so as only one wheel (the bottom one ) acts on the chain, and i must say it is great. Here are some pictures just incase you didn't quite catch what i have written.
Krisboats
And if you'd have locked the rear mech out by taking out the spring around the hanger bolt you wouldn't need rubber or to have taken the jockey wheel off. Hell, you could even put a stem bolt through the high/low adjustment screw holes so you don't need that horrid little bit of cable, or the mount for it so that could be grinded off. You could also have cut the inside cage arm in half leaving only the half for the main cog you are using instead of having a bolt where the other jockey wheel used to be. You could also drill the main body of it to make it lighter. And now that you have no other nearby cogs you can invest in a nice new and stronger chain like a KMC kool
