Zoo! Python Brake Mounts! Threaded

Recommended Posts

Ok so i've had my Python 4 days already.....bought some Echo CNC brake clamps and the bolts that came with them were stupidly short, about the same length as what you would use for a Magura brake leaver (pretty short). Tightened them up and BANG, 1 thread hole gone......tightened other 1 BANG thats gone.......

I used a standard Magura bolt, which was of decent length, obviously it tightened right down to the bottom and nothing could possibly move the clamps, well you'd have thought so, i put some pressure by pedalhopping a gap, and surprisingly the clamps moved outer line.

The left sided clamp threads are fine (i think). I didn't want to make the same mistake again by using these short bolts that came with the clamps, i decided to thread in a standard Magura bolt (by that i mean long and normal) it threaded in really hard at first on both mount holes, i thought i was going to thread it, as it was really tight on its way down (is this normal?)

Anyways, would you recomend getting all 4 bolt mounts helicoiled to be extra safe! or just the 2 that are Fcuked?

M5 x0.8 Biff :) Do it yourself! Much cheaper, buy a kit, 5.2mm drill bit, and helicoil it yoursel. Really easy, if you need any help on doing it catch me on msn, I did all the mounts in my t-rex when they stripped,, piece of cake :)

The bolts are probably shorter for a reason, you said the magura ones didn't tighten enough, probably because they where touching the frame. From this I imagine the clamps have a thinner profile, so you will probably have to use the Echo bolts.

Carefull not to overtighten them, they only need to be tight, don't go crazy on them!

Hope it works out for you in the end.
