20'' To 26''

Recommended Posts

hello mate i'm in the same situation i ride a zoo python mod at the minute and i would like to change to a stock something like the onza limey. But i can never decide if to.

There are things that that run through my head when i am deciding things such as

"is a 26 to big for me" ( because i am only 5 foot 9 inches ) and also would i be able to do as much on a 26 as i can on my 20" because people say that you can not do half the stuff when you move from a 20 to a 26

reason why i would like to move..

because when i have seen people on onza limeys they make there riding look so smooth and it looks like they are not put no effort into it even though they are going really big. ( they maybe putting lots of effort it but it doesn't look like it at time's)

but thank you for making this post because i have used it as well. and looking at all the comments on this post i think i am going to stick with mod.

* is it true when you ride mod and move to a stock you can not do half the stuff before, or well not as big*

thank you

Greeny

Hi i have a mod and a stock and i find it easier to do things on the mod because of the size and wright of it. If you want a stock go for it but i would say try and go on some different ones so you know how they feel and so you know that you can do stuff on them.

Hi, this is my first post on this forum so Appologies if it is not done in the right way.

I ride a stock (Onza T-Rex 04) and I,ve really grown to like the way it feels. I've never riden a mod but from what I've heard they are better for natural terrain than street riding. IMO I would go for the stock.

Also if you ever intend to do other types of riding (mtb) then I think it is easier to switch from stock than mod as a stock is more like a 'normal' mtb.

The Saracen looks like a good starter bike but I would be doubtful of it's strength at such a low price. You may be better off getting a good frame and then building it up over time to spread the cost.

I hope this helps and that my post works ok

Id stay with mod cause you may find you dont like a stock and be stuck with a bike you dont like but if you go on other peoples stocks see if you like the ride and be sure about the set up of the bike so you know if you do get one it will be perfect for your riding style

I was going to go from my mod to stock too but i was told its a big step

but id go mod all the way but its up to you.

Hope ive helped Chris B)

ive ridden one of them saracens and they are ok but a little heavey and only have very basic part on them. i think you should go for a second hand one on ebay as i ride 26 inch at the moment and bought my first bike off ebay which turned out 2 b an awsome deal as i manamged 2 seel all of the parts after riding on them for avout 6 months and still made quite a large profit on the price i paid for the bike (Y):D

yea mines about 11 kg and i have only upgraded the bars, stem, seat, got a single speed converter and tensioner.

with drilled rims, new hubs and new forks it would be a lot lighter than it is at the minute. i reckon it could go down to about 9 kg.

Right mate you are going to make the biggest mistake of your life if you do that.

I have owned both mod and stock.

Stock:

On my 26" i could gap alot bigger and had more power in my moves, but i could not backwheel, switch, sidehop or anything like that because stocks are just to heavy.

So i decided to get a mod and i am now riding my beloved zona zip.

Mod:

On my 20" the weight of the bike is completly different, much easier to flick around and go bigger on, my gapping has downgraded slightly but my sidehopping has gone tremendously bigger and also my backwheeling and also it is alot easier to switch the bike through now (switch: front to back).

Tell you mate, i have no regrets going to mod and i tell you now theres no going back to stock thast fro sure.

So there you go its your chocie if you want to f**k up your riding career but hey go ahead if you wish. I am just giving out some sensiable and honest advice.

Cheers ! (Y)

I didnt f**k up my career.

I dont think you gave it long enough, you reap what you sow (or somthing like that) it may take longer to get good on 26", but once your good you have learned more bike handling skills than riding a mod would have.

mods are more like instant results, but stocks take more time, but it pays in the end. (trust me!!)

WOW! some of the answers in this topic have been a bit silly!

I started riding when i was 14(now 21), i started on a £350 GT beast, since then ive had about 6 or so different bikes. I did change from a Stock to a Mod, and loved it, helped me get a few techniques dialed, but I have recently moved back to stock and I can still apply the same techniques took a few rides to get used to the different geometry but im now going bigger and bigger every ride.

Its going to be your own personal choice on what you want to ride, Stock or Mod, and which you prefer. Personally i enjoy both, but im finding my new Holroyd to be a joy to ride. I would recommend trying stock befor changing. Take a simular bike for a test ride to see if you like it.

PS Sorry for the bad spelling, its a friday afternoon, and im looking forward to riding tonight!

stocks arent heav, there mostly the same weight as the mods, sometimes even lighter. all they are is just that they are bigger. everyone is different. some people like it some people dont, let the kid decide. try it out
