Danny Kearns
Hi there i am thinking of getting a tensile freewheel but seen as they are only avaliable in 18 tooth that will make my gearing to heavy for my liking. So i was wondering what size rear sprocket would i need to get so the gearing feels the same as how i am running now e.g acs 16tooth:12 tooth rear sprocket.?Cheers ! T-BAD
try the tensile with a 13tooth sproket on't rear
Danny Kearns
Are you 100% sure on that or is that a rough idea.?Cheers !
Will Arnold
18:12 is used as standard.but yer if your lookin for something lighter, then 13t as said above

JT!
So your running 16:12 now which gives you a 1.33 gear ratio. So if you got a 18T freewheel on the front, you'd need a 13.5 cog on the back. Seing as though you can't get 13.5T cog, you'll need a 13T or 14T on the rear. This is where you have to decide if you would like your gear to be slightly harder or easier. If you want it harder, go for the 13T cog, if you want it lighter/easier got for the 14t cog. But note that these will only be very slight changes on what you have already. If you want a 18T freewheel on the front, you have no choice to alter your gear ratio slightly. Which way it alters is up to you. But, on another not, they're suposed to be tensile freewheel comming out that is 16T. So maby get in touch with supercycles befor your go out and buy an 18T one. Mark W
I think you may be better off just going with 18:13. Once you get used to it being slightly harder you'll probably like it - bear in mind that like 95% of the mod riders in the world run 18:12, so it should give you an idea of what's a decent ratio to run It's all about striking a balance, so just give 18:13 a crack

Mark W
I meant he should try 18:13, fag If he's used to 16:whatever, then changing to a slightly harder gear would be fine, and if he likes that he could try 18:12... But yeah, just going to 18:12 would probably be an idea. At least try it out

Alun Goch
There's no harm in trying 18:12 before buying another cog, and if you like it you'll have saved a few pennies too.Alun
TomN
18:13 is far thee best gear, it felt right when my mate had that gearing.

At least try it out Well as you say just go for 18:12, if i do that it means i am going to have a 12 tooth cog on my new wheelbuild and i find it very hard to get sprockets of once they are on. So if you have any recommendations on how to get sprockets of easier then that would help me to be able to test different sprockets to get the right gearing.Cheers ! Mark W
I've found that getting a plumbers wrench + being burly has helped me with most sprocket/hub situations. As in, clamping the plumbers wrench around the sprocket (so it's wrapped round like a chain would be ) then just turning it off like that. It's done the trick so far for me Personally, I've found 18:12 but with 175mm cranks to be ideal. It's got the easier feeling of running 18:13, but you're not compromising the top-end power you get with 18:12, so it's all good, basically
Mat Smith!
I've got 18:13 with a King and 165 Tensiles.Feels mint, I love it.Mat

Danny Kearns
Well i ride mod so i went for inbetween and i have 170 tensiles. so my gearing is going to be different than yours mark no matter what. Also thanks for the advice on getting sprockets of it worked because i tryed it on an old wheel. Mark W
Me too, uber power! Everyone says my cranks are too long, but nah. Yeah, but people say my disc's too big up front too I think the fact that the majority of manufacturers are doing FFW cranks at 170mm long as standard might suggest that the days of 158 cranks are numbered, and that using a mechanical advantage by having longer cranks is the way to go...
