justfuzzit
Are the Echo components good? Mostly wondering about the cranks, wheels, freewheel.Anyone have any input?
JT!
Echo don't do freewheels. The hubs have just started to come out now as they had a few problems it appears.I made a topic a while ago asking about the External BB's and they seem to be problem free. Mark W
A certain type of Echo crank seemed to strip ASAP, but people's stories about which particular ones they are change like the wind Their rims also seem to not be that great - many people seem to have a lot of troubles with them, especially the 26" rims. Personally, for cranks I'd either stick with Middleburns, Tensiles or maybe Zoo's, and rims would probably just be Try-Alls or similar. The DX-32s are still really great rims though, if you can get one and still have a working back brake...

Mark W
Due to the fact the DX-32s have a narrower profile, it means you're kinda pushing it a bit with a 4-bolt Magura. Or so I found? Not enough piston to get the pads close enough to the rim, basically.
flipkickbs
Ah, i get you, i thought you meant the rim itself didn't perform well with your brake. Yea, agreed, they are a tad narrow for some frames. Ian
Mark W
Word. Which is a pity, really, 'cos they held grinds like a f**king trooper. Damn their 39.1mm width
justfuzzit
So buying a complete Echo Control is a bad idea? Im a beginner so im not TOO worried about it. Will they atleast hold up to a 180 lb dude doing smaller stuff on it?
MasterOfGussets
As I understand it, if you buy a complete bike from Tartybikes they'll change components to your specification. So if you don't want to run Echo rims just ask for something different.

Sam Nugent
My echo wheelset (20") has been good so far. Although I haven't riden too much with them on yet and haven't tried anything too big. But they look great. However its about function not fashion. (Fashion is second best though )

The new rims are ok but arent the strongest so be carefull. They do look great though
