The lemonade man
I'm thinking, as I can't afford a full build trials bike and dirt-jump rig, why shouldn't I make one to do both?If I had reasonably long rigid forks, and a wide gear ratio, would there be any reason not to?<getting bored of dirt jump on my dh bike )
Dan6061
..Becuase it's ride like shit?
Ali C
just keep your trials bike as you would, but bosh some gears on, what do you know, a jump bike I wouldnt change anything on my bike to go dirtjumping, well ok, if I wanted to do jumping as much as trials I would smack a smaller stem and maybe some narrower bars on, but thats it. The lemonade man
About what would be the longest forks that would work with a trials bike though?I know it wouldn't ride amazingly but it'd be something.
Alun Goch
Perhaps you could afford two second-hand bikes? How much is your DHer worth?Alun
The lemonade man
Could afford two 2nd hand bikes but I've just started racing and my dh bike has taken me ages to make/afford so thats not really an option.I think I'll just build it up and see how it goes, trials style, short stem and narrower bars as Ali C said.Cheers, keep the suggestions coming
Jez
I did it for years with no problems. Yeah, a trials bike will ride better for trials and vice-versa, but if you're stuck for cash, it's doable. Just do a LOT of research into the best stuff to get before you go splashing out on great trials components if they'll be shit for jumping and vice-versa. Look into all the geometry crap and stuff as well. But then again, I'm pretty oldschool 32T bash & ring and all...Bear in mind that in my personal experience, almost any bike is jumpable, but not every bike is trialable, so you might wanna make it more trialsy than jumpy. I used to know a kid with a Pashley 26MHz that put all the guys with jump bikes to shame round our end.
TomN
Ye can do Jump and Trials on a Trials bike anyways....I do on my Ashton but I was better on thee Base for it since I could sit down
Tomm
I want to do this with my ET 24. It's already got the short stem and narrow bars, but I think it could probably do with some forks (as well as a bigger gear obviously) to be a lovely jump bike
