squince
I bought a bike of selectbikes almost a year and a half ago, It got stolen 6 months later I informed the police and they said go through your insurece so we did, and they bascially without asking any questions said, you can have anything upto 1500 pounds if it was stolen from your house, or 1000 pounds if stolen anywhere in the uk, them prices are a maximum on bike btw. My zoo that i bought from selelct bikes was 900 pounds, and i got 1300 out of them and bought an echo team from tartybikes, All i had to do is send my reciept to my insurence and they wrote the cheque for the amount i needed, basically if your going to do it get tarty ti make a a quote on a more expensive bike, then say its the nearest there is now and its more expenive, worked for me, no questions asked.hope i helped.cheers andy
Tony Harrison
The university/security company should pay up in full, for being f***ing irresponsible and moving security cameras. If they don't, then surely you have a brilliant grounding for some kind of legal case at least?Oh, and just spoken to my old Law teacher: you have an UBER case against the Uni for losses. At my uni I'm pretty sure bikes were stored 'at the owner's risk', but this one might be different. Mine was Liverpool after all... Probably best chasing up the household insurance, got to be worth a go. Does seem funny that the camera moved. Unless some local scumbag/uni-dropout had seen you store the bike there, and then moved the camera in preparation for a raid.Totally sucks though either way. dave33
nick i think the best bet would be to say that the bike was stolen from ur home, all you gotta do is break in to ur house making sure the door has a working lock and you gotta make sure the hiuse was lockedmymate done this and he got away with it, and your probly going to come across your bike soner than later and you might be able to get it back
011001000110010101110010
Defrauding insurance companies is a serious offence. Get caught and its bad news. Try legit ways first.
Tony Harrison
But of course, if you've already been to the Police and reported the theft as being at the university, then you'll have been given a crime number to reflect this, and so the insurance company will know it wasn't stolen from your house. Greetings
Very sorry to hear that Posts like these make me think about the very few advantages of no longer living in Britain. One of these would be, that there has not been a single trials bike stolen here. Just a remark from my side.Hope you get it back, after all of what use is a trials bike to a robber? Good luck

manuel
bugger ... I more than others know what this feels like....chances are if you are insured for theft of your things at uni the bike will be covered too - when locked in the uni halls.....however - you may have needed to contact to say that you were at halls before going - depends on your insurers....other than that I think you would have a hard time getting money out of the uni - and pretty much kiss goodbye to the hope of seeing it again from the police....chances are that it was stolen by some fanny who just tailgated into the hall behind someone else pretending to have a bike ... happened all the time at our uni - and with so many people in the halls they never asked to see some proof.... probably opertunist too - just lucky that your s was there ..... BASTARDS
Bionic Balls
making me really worried guys..mine is in a metal cage, requiring an approved ID swipe-card to get in (and out), and i've locked it with a motorbike chain to two bike racks...and a skinny cable lock round the front wheel...but...there must be ~150 people with cards....and this is in central london hmmmgood luck dude adam
Prawny Baby
chances are that it was stolen by some fanny who just tailgated into the hall behind someone else pretending to have a bike ... happened all the time at our uni - and with so many people in the halls they never asked to see some proof.... probably opertunist too - just lucky that your s was there ..... thats what the police seem to think as well latest news:the stupid c**ts forgot there was a 2nd camera outside the sheds, so they have been caught on that one, and they have pictures of the faces of two people who took it, so they are being circulated around the local stations to see if they can be identified, and im going to look at them too to see if its anyone i know.the police also seem fairly confident that a bike as unique as mine will be found, and its going to be in all the local papers next week as well, with it being such a unique bike. many of the bits were completely custom! so you couldnt even build a replica unless you spoke very kindly to edd potts, and knew the exact workings of my mind and my pillar drill...... and were sad enough to have noted all the individual mods to parts ive made....bastards.....there is hope, very slim, but i guess i shouldnt give up just yet.....EDIT:big thanks to everyone for showing your concern! i was really in the mood for some good riding too, now that ive got a load of time off! the prospect of summer without my bike is seriously savage.... tipsy Jock
Unlucky Nick I had a bike nicked from one of those multi-user uni bike sheds too, they're really not good...If you need any duplicate receipts, just let us know I'm not an "i told you so" kind of guy, but i would never consider keeping any bike worth more than £500 in a shared lock up, even less so a £1000 trials bike. Most uni's will claim bikes in rooms are health and safety risks blah blah but this highlights just how much its the only safe place for any valuable bike. hope you get it back mate, sounds the guys that stole it were pretty damn stupid so theres a good chance, especially with it being so distinctive. to anyone else at uni/ going to uni keep the thing in your room, even if it involves dismantling it and putting it under your bed. once again hope you find it Pete

Greater Manchester Police couldn't care less about my stolen bikes. Despite the fact that I saw my BMX being ridden into a house nearby, they couldn't be arsed to even go around there to ask. On the other hand, the insurance paid out fully which was nice. I still feel pretty raw about losing that lovely Leeson. You'll have to check with your insurance company what's covered and what's not, and hope they're nice.Good luck anyway, at least the police are helping
Prawny Baby
having spoken to my dad he seems to think that our house insurance is a bit gay and bikes had to be specified still mildly hopful that its going to turn up though as i really dont see how anyone could sell it in the trials comunity, because even if its sold to someone whos not on here, hes bound to go on rides and its bound to be seen by people who are surely?hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, sounds like im clutching st straws really i just want my bike back!its a saturday, the suns out, and for once im not hungover on a saturday!!!! i really should be out riding! ScotchDave
You could try going round all the LBSs, see if anyone has been in to try and sell it. Also you could try all the local cash converters type stores.

Gavyn.
i'm sorry to hear that mate . surly if there's cameras then the uni must take some resposibilty for bikes being left there other wise they would'nt bother to use cameras or a key system
nmt_oli
Good to see youve got some progress nick! At least you have pics of who took your bike, i don't even have that.if you want to borrow any of my spare bits, just shout. you need something to ride.Dont mean to say i told you so, but i did say get a bigger lock. After my bikes got nicked in soton, and i had my new trials bike in my room i actually locked it to the radiator just in case, and so uni staff couldnt remove it if they did a random room search. OD404
I had my old White Levelboss stolen from the flat I was living in a couple of years back while doing my Industrial Placement. Neither the bike nor the flat were insured. I thought back then that the uniqueness of the bike would be a good thing, but to be honest whoever took it is likely to realise they can't sell it on and promtly dump it, I've certainly not seen head nor tail of my bike since.I was luck however in that my dad managed to convince his insurance company that my stuff was still convered under his home contents. The argument centred around me spending a large proportion of my time at home still, and that being in a flat while still doing my degree was no different to when I was in halls (which the insurance company had knowingly covered me for in the past). Surfice to say, I got replacements for everything that was stolen from my flat.My advice is not to rely on the idea that your bike will turn up, chances are its been dumped if they have realised they can't sell it quickly. But get your parents to badger their home contents insurers, as they may come through for you. Beware though, the insurance company will have the last laugh, my dad's premium went sky high after that...Good luck mate, I know how sh!t you must be feeling about it all

JT!
I'd make a claim on your home insurace now, or at least get in touch with them. Becuase by the sound of it you don't really know if it's cover or not. I'd be one of the first things i'd cheak out. It's what i did and like i said got about 80% of the money back. Krisboats
My friend jay had his bike stolen in town whilst it was chained up to a bike rail, the town centre cctv moved off the bike and a minute later when it moved back to it the bike was gone... he got it replaced on the house insurance somehow. His other bike was stolen out of his back yard without being locked up and he managed to get a replacement for that as well... dispite it being less than a year since the first was stolen... he got an azonic steelhead with zoom forks and other crappy parts replaced with an 05 kona stuff. All he had to do was show a pciture of the bike with the parts on it and find the retail cost of the parts for the company to give an adequate replacement.Just ring them, worst they can say is no.
