hi guys.

ive just gone to go for a ride only to find that my bikes been stolen.

it was locked up in an underground store, with only residents of my halls having access, locked up under a CCTV camera with 3 substantial locks.

i last locked it up on sunday morning at around 10am when bigman left after the DJ ride.

i just went to get it now, and its gone

the only signs it was ever there are small bits of plastic from the remains of one of my locks.

when i asked at reception, the womon said 'oh thats odd, the camera was moved earlier this week and we couldnt see anything'

well theres a FU<KING SURPRISE YOU DUMB BITCH!!!!!!!!!!

so.

it wasnt insured.

im living in portsmouth in university halls.

my home is in cornwall. and obviously has house insurance.

am i, in any way, shape, or form, covered by my house insurance for the loss of my bike?

i am COMPLETELY skint, and dont have a penny to put towards replacing it, even with something shit. and i recently sold off almost all my spare parts to raise money! so im stuffed.......

any advice, suggestions, or helpful comments of any sort would be lovely....

a VERY angry prawn, currently trying to to explode and smash the place up......

I take it your uni accept no responsibility for lost property?

Edit: each insurance policy is differant depending on the house, get your parents to have a read through the small print.

Sorry to put a downer on it, but probably not :(

Insurance companies will do anything to not pay out, and home insurance is extremely picky. An example of this is that my mate had a quad (for his kid) and it was covered under his home insurance (no need to have it on TPFT insurance as it wasn't used on the road. He took it to a garage that he owned and left it there over night...it got nicked and the insurance refused to pay out on home insurance as it was, basically, not at home.

Its worth a try with the insurance, but contact whoever runs your uni, do they take responsibility for anything left in the lockups? Very unlikely they do, but you never know.

268 rooms in my halls, and around 140 in the halls behind, allof which share the bike locker.

to get into the locker you need a room key, and you also need to take out a bike locker key for the 2nd padlock!

to angry to type now

posting again later

WHATTTTTTTTTTTT one of uncle ashtons finest is gone :(

no sick mates playing a SICK joke?

If it is someone in the uni halls then surely they can't do much with it? If the person is there like you then arn't you likely to see it?

If you do, I feel an industrial sized can of woop ass in order!!!!!

Keep scanning ebay!

On my house insurance I know my bike is covered, even if it gets nicked from outside a shop or something, as long as theres a lock on it!

Good luck matey :((N)

Were the locks on the doors broken? if not try and get a list of everyone with the bike locker room key, there are your suspect's.

Are you allowed to keep your bike in your room? If not, kick stink about that, if they are not going to allow you to keep it in your room, and force you to put it in a basement, it's kinda their responsibility to make sure that you have a secure area to put it.

Of course they could have disclaimers and such but at least youll make them think about it.

Just look out for the obvious places, keep a word out, it may be a big university but let as many people know about it as possible, how else are they going to flog it? Get some posters up ect, im gussing it was a pretty individual bike so just give out loadsa pics and maybe offer a little reward, may seem like a waste of money but its worth trying, especialy if its goin to get you closer to finding your bike!

Right mate, when i lost or broke my phone it wasn't insured neither, but my dad always rung up the house insurence people and they sent us a new one.

Aslong as you have all the reciets and proof that you had the bike/the bike was yours you should get some money back (Y)

Hope i helped,

Mat

Have you told the police yet? If not I'd do that first.

Then I'd read about the bike lockers, if your uni claims theyre 'secure', get a lawyer involved and see if you can sue them.

Seams like the best option I mean your uni would rather pay out than get sued and its not like you left it out side of a shop it was locked up with at least too good locks.. Do they not keep a reccord for who took what key for what locker :S?

its a multi user type thing. basicly, its a basement with a big metal door, which has a yale lock opened by the room keys for the halls, and an additional padlock that you have to sign to get the key for if you want to keep a bike in there.

inside there are bike stands bolted to the floor which you chain your bike to.

problem is, 80% of the time, the halls residents are too <untish to bother putting the 2nd padlock on, because theyre a bunch of useless wankers! so any of the 400 people with the generic front door key could have gotten into the shed while the padlock was off, instead of the 50 or so people who have a bike shed key.

im SERIOUSLY hoping that i can get something back, otherwise the chances of me getting another bike within a year are pretty slim....... i really am that skint.

time will tell.....

i never even got to take any pics of her when she was finished!

Nick that must surely suck, i feel down in the dumps when my bike isnt working and ive never had it stolen so it must be really hard for you.

But there is good news, if its insured under house insurance its normally covered if its stolen from said hous, stolen from you or if it is stolen whilst locked to a solid object

i do hope what i have said brings you some hope but thats what mine and many other peoples policies are like.

It depends who you're with but basically read up all the small print on the house insurance policy and with a bit of luck you'll be able to get the money out of them, just remember that they don't want to give you money but will to avoid too much of a fuss. (Y)

You said to me on msn that there were cameras but they had been moved out the way? Probably at the time or very near to when it went missing. Is there other camera perhaps on the entrance/exit of this underground thing? Its not like your bike isn't very distinctive.

You reported it stolen yet?

that actually blows mate, just keep an eye out and i recon you sill see some little monkey kid riding about oon it in portsmouth, if so just go skull f**k him to death

sure someone will see it around if it still in portsmouth, keep the eye on ebay etc, so there light at end of the tunnel, failing that wing it and say that it twas at you house and bitch kids broke in and stole it, and commit abit of fraud

The university/security company should pay up in full, for being f***ing irresponsible and moving security cameras. If they don't, then surely you have a brilliant grounding for some kind of legal case at least?

Step one mate: Inform the police and explain the entire situation form top to bottom with them. Get them to check every security camera within a fairly large radius of your halls (we're talking in miles).

Step two: find the idiot who moved the camera in the bike locker and knock them out.

Step three: Post up a complete spec of the bike down to the smallest detail on here. I know I'd recognise it anywhere but people who don't know it would have more of a problem. If you say that the front wheel has wierd drillings in it (can't remember if that's you or steve who has that) then people are more likly to spot that then just a blue king hub or pazzazz bar, and then be able to do something about it.

Truly sucks mate, but it honestly can't get that far so just keep you eyes peeled.

Oh, and just spoken to my old Law teacher: you have an UBER case against the Uni for losses.

Rich
