Gandalf the Yellow
ain't been on here for a while, so i've missed a lot of threads and stuff but i remember someone saying something about riding abroad?it involved a couple of people on here thats going to hong kong this summer?i think the names were staples and waynio, but i might be wrong... basically i should be going in july, for a month, but just a question on bringin the bike on the plane..i heard that hydraulics might pop over high pressures on the plane? is this true? so do i need to drain the system before and rebleed it? cheers steve
Simpson
Hmmm no personal exp. but the hull on a plane may well drop bellow 0 and so if it does your brake hoses may crack if you are running water in you maggies which freezes and expands - i dont know if your running oil i cant imagaine there being a prob

Greetings
basically i should be going in july, for a month, but just a question on bringin the bike on the plane.. i heard that hydraulics might pop over high pressures on the plane? is this true? so do i need to drain the system before and rebleed it? Heard that as well. But, if it were the case toothpaste/alcohol bottles/food in cans, jars/other liquids in sealed containers would explode. And also, there is very low pressure on the plane (in the baggage compartment) as you are flying at a hight where there is little air. They say there are also very low temperatures (below freezing) in the luggage compartment but if that were the case, the items listed above would explode as well. Bollocks, if you are afraid, take the hydraulics off and take it with you into the plane. The bike can easily be packed into a big case. Done that before, no problems. Brakes were v's though. It is also said that shock absorbers can get damaged.

TheChai
brakes would be fine, would only need to deflate tires.. might be worth winding the tpa all the way out though never had any problems myself

Gandalf the Yellow
arrh nice 1, so no need to worry about hydraulics... *phew*so whats happening about some good riders going to hong kong for a bit?..was just rumour?steve
Tony Harrison
Most airliners have pressurised cargo holds. You could let a bit of air out of your tyres, but the brakes will be fine.
Dan@Trials-uk
Last time I went, Virgin had special sport equipment storage, so they just told me to put my bike in there, No extra cost Brakes will be fine, just deflate your tyres (as said above) you can either package your bike in a bike bag, or a bike box. Hope that helps.
Thom
When you go be sure to check out these guys Link they have great prices on trials parts and they are trials riders themselves so they'll probably be more than happy to give you info on rides etc. They speak pretty good english too.
