ramps
Just wondering how much of a task it would be really. Me dad reckons he could do easily but he's a lazy b*****d and probably won't, so if I were to pay someone to do it how much of a ball ache would it be? Am I going to be better off getting a new frame with a mount already on it? Its just a thought at the minute but I fancy going we disc on the back. Danny
If its an aluminium frame then don't bother. If its steel then yes it can be done easily.

Zordon
I'm afraid welding a disc mount could be risky. A disc brake generates lots more force than a rim brake. The disc mount could easily crack at the weld. Additionally, if your frame does not have a disc mount it's for sure not intended to be used with a disc brake and can break fast. Monty_Man_Stoive
It dont matter if its an aluminium frame, you just tig weld it, i do all sorts of welding, tig, mig, ark, spot and even leading etc etc... how do you think your frame is joined together? as long as youve got the 100% bang on correct measurments and all that it should be fine, if your that worried about it cracking (which it should be ok) just re-strengthen it by re-welding it. Get a proffesional to do it though, you have to know what your doing with tigging Hope that helped
Danny
Aluminium frames are heat treated after welding. If you go rewelding them or welding extra bits on without re heat treating it it will break in no time.

Greetings
Either make a removable disc mount adaptor (which can be done easily and will be durable) or forget about running a rear disc.
Thom
It can be done and it has been done before. A guy from Australia had a disk mount welded onto his BT and it worked pretty good, the only thing was the mounting holes deforming or something like that, which he said could of been avoided if there were brass fittings ?? I can't remember clearly but it was along those lines. We have a place www.gripsport.com that does it. He also adds extra gussets to prevent any snapping. It cost us about $200 AUS for it to be done and painted as well, you can see pictures in the gallery from the website. If you can find someone like this to do it for you I reckon you shuld give it shot.

tomturd
Either make a removable disc mount adaptor (which can be done easily and will be durable) or forget about running a rear disc.I'd go for this option.. made an adaptor for my DT A-level project (was pretty shit though, would have snapped in no time). Someone else on the forum has made a simpler/stronger looking one, saw it in a photo on here somewhere but wouldnt know what to start searching for.. I'm guessing IOLO or todge or someone could make one for you for less than the price of getting one welded on.
IOLO
if its steel and your dad really cant be assed . lolthen i can do it, and get your frame re coated..if its alu. i could also do it, and heat treat the frame afterwards.but that option aint that cheep compared to steel..what frame is it mate ?iolo. Tony Harrison
Surely you can't just heat-treat the bit you've welded? It'll mess up the rest of the frame won't it?
mat hudson
his spec sats a t rex.no you heat treat the entire frame.

ramps
Hmmm. Cheers for all the comments, and yes it is indeed a T-Rex. What give me this idea is Martin Ashoton had my local bike shop weld a mount on his Justice, now I don't know exactly what they did to make it last but I think I will pop in and ask about it. Cheers anyway.
