TheChai
What does it mean when the bios lags? and the whole system in general, it would freeze for like 10 seconds and re contiunes, or sometimes just crashes. and this is normally for simple processes. e.g opening mulitple internet windows.also, my usb ports dont seem to work, the printer just doesnt respond, same goes to the sound card (PCI slot), sometimes it just says thats theres no audio device detected, the only way i manged to go about that was to reboot the thing till it sorts it self out which is pretty annoying.. any help would be appreciated.thank you

Siders77
p.s your computers f***ed Don't be a cock. Have you done a Virus/Spyware/Adware scan? Defragged too?If not then I'd do that and if it still happens I'd probably format.
TheChai
i have reformatted using the reload CD given by the computer manufacture, but i dont know think that truely wipes everything off. also i have spybot search and destory and it always detects 12 errors i believe, but these come back as soon as i restart the computer. even with immunisation.. ram 1.5 gbCPU AMD 2700 2.16ghzit runs counter strike source and general absolutely fine and most other games my brother plays. Siders77
Try and get a copy of Windows, they're cheap enough now. That restore CD only takes it back to whe the PC was first purchased so it leaves the Windows file system on the HDD.
TheChai
thanks dude i will give it a go when i get the time, and update if needed
spode@thinkbikes
Do you mean that inside the BIOS it's really slow to react?
Danny
That restore CD only takes it back to whe the PC was first purchased so it leaves the Windows file system on the HDD.No they dont. They completely wipe the partition and copy a preset image back onto it. If it still does it after that its a hardware problem. First thing i recommend is to run memtest86. TheChai
where do i get memtest86? and what does it do?? and yes spode it lags when i go into the bios, takes a while to make selections. never used to do this.
CBProductions
memtest goes through all your memory sticks and tests them for errors , this is a possible cause to the above mentioned problems , you can get it off download.com if im not mistaken or just google it and they should provide some good results. I would be playing too much in bios unless you know what your doing as its a surefire way to fudging up your pc.Hope you sort it .C
spode@thinkbikes
Not all recovery CD's format, some will have options for light recovery, or recovery of apps only. But in this case, it sounds like a hardware fault and I agree that MemTest would be a good start. The Ultimate Boot CD is quite a useful bootable CD with a collection of tools on, including MemTest. Quick Google for that will bring it up. A copy of Knoppix is also useful too, to eliminate the software corruption issue. This is a bootable version of Linux that requires no installation.I have seen BIOS' on brand new boards that are "laggy" but the performance hasn't been affected. So I would possibly ignore that as a red herring. Once you've sorted out what the problem is, a BIOS upgrade might solve it. I wouldn't recommend doing one until you have solved the issue mind you.At the moment, considering all your other problems it's sounding a little like your motherboard is unhappy. But it's difficult to diagnose this stuff over the net - it may well be something VERY simple causing all of this. Extreme_biker0
Nobody's asked this yet, but have you put any new hardware inside the computer recently?Have you set up any new network connections?Installed any new drivers? Also try dissconnecting all none essential peripherals (printer, scanner, any usb stuff) leaving only your keyboard and mouse and screen.Have you verified that it's not just a problem with your mouse not responding? Try pressing alt+tab during the next freeze. It is almost certainly a hardware problem, but it is strange for one to occur without a change to the system. On second thoughts... Have any nuclear bombs exploded in the vicinity recently? The EMP might have damaged some circuitry? TheChai
definielty not just the mouse that doesnt respond, number lock on the keyboard wont work either. tried alt ctrl del tried leaving it over night.i have recently formated, which i had to install the printer driver, and graphics card driver but that worked fine for the first 2 weeks or so.i have network connections set up. and they work fine. question: is it normal for this mem test thing to take hours? its on 1hr 45 and only 60% pass.thanks alot guys, really appreciate it
Siders77
Yeah, it'll take ages. I let mine run for 6 hours+. Some leave it for even longer.
spode@thinkbikes
I think if there was something major wrong with the memory, you'd know after 1:45.Have you tried clearning the CMOS? Maybe you've changed a setting that has screwed things up a little. And I would try the Knoppix Live CD too. It would be good to remove software from the equation. What is the CPU temperature like? Do know what CPU it is?

TheChai
by clearing cmos do u mean reseting everything to default?
Siders77
Yeah, there's a CCMOS jumber on the board. Unplug your pc, press the power button, take the jumper off of the 2 pins its on and move it up/down, leave it for a few mins then put it back to how it was. Then turn the PC on and it'll be back to the original settings. If you don't have the CCMOS jumper just use the same method up there ^^ but instead of moving ther jumper take the battery out of the motherboard.
