Cheap Bikes Do The Trick

Recommended Posts

hi everyone i have been thinking about something for a while and ive finaly tried it out,can u take a halfords bike and mike it trials worthy.Last year my cousin brought a apollo x rated from halfords it was a poor spec and couldnt take much abuse but it lasted.Eventualy every other component died except the headset and the frame.

So last week i took this frame and alot of other parts and began to work,at first i cut the seatpost off and fitted all trials components and gave it a spray and now i think it looks the part. But to answer the big question is it trials worthy? well yes i took it out today and i was backwheeling as high as i can do on my mod wich is about 40 inch,i struggled abit with gaps but i was only a foot shorter than i can usaly do.

I will try and get a vid out soon but its gonna take a while as i still love my zoo to bits, and finaly heres the finished product enjoy.

How does it ride though? Compared with a trials specific frame, the geometry will be different. Personally I don't see much point, as the frame can't be bought alone (correct me if I'm wrong), so you'll be wasting some money on all the components that come with it (though this won't be much on a cheap bike like this), and I doubt it will last very long on larger stuff, as It hasn't been designed for the type of stress trials has on a frame. Nice idea though, doesn't look too bad either.

It says in the first post he didn't buy it new, sorry if it sounded like I was implying that. I meant if anyone else where to do this, some money would be wasted on the components that come with the bike.

Let us know how you get along with it, and you'r opinion on the way it rides.

Hi it rides realy nice the rear end is very short, and i didnt waste any money on components as i allready had those ones spare so i put them to good use. It may not be trials specific but it does the trick, anyway tomorow im getting a dropout for base ta26 so i will post that soon.
