king_damo
Hey, im new and am looking to get into the whole trials biking thing. Ive got a mountain bike at the moment but its completely buggered and rusting so im wanting to get a new one. Could someone recommend bikes/brands that would be good for a beginner and not to expensive (less than £200 if possible)? I was thinking a BMX would be good but would they be any good for this kinda thing? thanks alot

adamtrials
Your not going to get much for £200 unless you go secondhand.A bmx would not be good for trials.Add me to msn if you want advice on a 26" for under £200. king_damo
I went to Halfords today and talked to some dude about bikes for like 2 hours, so that was kinda helpful. I saw an Apollo X-rated X.05s for 150 quid that i thought was pretty decent but the guy said it wasnt that good and that it'd break easily (he's like an ultra extreme freestyle downhill racer or somthing with a 3000quid bike lol) i thought that if it DID break, then wouldnt i just be able to take the parts off and stick them on another frame? One bike he said was really good was a GT chucker for £370.. lovely bike but i dont think i want to spend that much on my first (proper) bike hmm.. (like incase the whole hopping about on stuff doesnt last lol) anybody know a good sturdy flexible mountain bike that could be used for both trials biking and just normal mountain biking for around 200-250? cheers Edited May 16, 2006 by king_damo

duane
Hi, You are best off looking for a second hand bike, as people have already said you can get a second hand bike with upgraded parts for the sort of money you are talking about. If you don't like it you can sell it on for more or less what you paid.Regarding the Apollo, it will be a cheap low grade steel frame that will probably never break, but it will be heavy and the wheels will be very low quality with poor braking surfaces and fairly soft rims which will buckle often, all the other parts will be very cheap and fail very quickly. The worst part of all is probably the suspension fork, 150 GBP gets a good fork, what you will get on a bike that costs that much is steel spring suspension with no damping basically the fork is there to look good and doesn't provide any benefit at all while weighing and flexing more than a rigid fork.Just to repeat get a second hand bike and be grateful that the guy in halfords talked some sense instead of letting you walk out with the apollo like he is paid to do.I have a base ta 26, its about 400 GBP new, should be a lot of used ones about for the sort of money you have. spud
Try ebay and look for a mission prodigy ifyou want 20inch as this was my first trials bike and it wasvery strong and i found it to be a very good beginners bike. If you keep looking on ebay you willsoon find one cheap enough.
