MasterOfGussets
is there any advice you can give me to get the death metally kind of voice (roaring) like nile/dying fetus would useDon't do screaming vocals - it'll wreck your voice box. My mate wanted to do solely screaming vocals until it got to a point where even short practices would leave his throat sore for days.Use melodic styles, even if you mix it in with screams. (Killswitch, Shadows fall, etc). But if you really want to do screaming, enunciate well (exagerate your mouth movements... open wider) and try tensing your neck, pulling your chin in and screaming while trying to drop your vocal tone ten octaves. (Like a teenager tries to deepen his voice for prank calls).Hope that helps in some way.
Guest
Yeh, if your not used to singing, it will f**k you up properly. It's not easy to project your boice while maintianing steady volume, tone, and pitch.Even singing in a 'normal' voice will hurt your throat after a while if you don't know how to relax and warm up your vocal chords.I wouldn't bother with screaming down the microphone, it's not cool, and no-one knows what your trying to say anyway..... CBProductions
One word , join a proper band and use your voice to sing, rather than raging your dying voicebox down a £5 microphone to impresse the local emo's .... seriously dude I really think youd be better off in a lyrical based band rather than the I scream for a living , especially if your asking how to scream. Dan Clark
If you do it right, screaming doesn't damage your voice box at all.Cup your hands around the microphone and scream into it so none of your voice is lost, makes it sound sorta reverby and cool. Chicky
I do all lead screaming in my band. I find Atreyu style screaming is the easiest, specially from behind a drum kit. We dont even bother mic'ing me up half the time.Umm, exaggerated mouth motions is the best bet. Proper open your mouth and throat. And whatever you do *dont* cup your hands round the mic, it may sound cool in practice but once you get to a gig and all the crowd can hear is feedback from the stage amps you'll looks just a tad stupid.Screaming is a hard one to practice, it sounds shit if you dont do it with a band. Just hook up with the guitarist as much as possible and practice at loud levels
Dan Clark
Yeah, you definately need loud levels, you don't really scream louder than you sing, but for some reason its easier. The only thign I can think of to help is sorta to tense your diaphragm, its hard to explain, but when you get it you'll understand, assuming you do it the same way I do, which seeing as your looking for super low growls, you probably won't. trials_pimp
f**k about. Some of you guys need to get a damn clue.Screaming/shouting into a mic alot wont do anything if you learn to do it correctly.Dont use your throat at all, you need to learn how to bring it from your chest. Then you can scream.shout whole songs is Bleeding through, November Coming Fire. All the little snippy "emo shouty crap" comments can f**k off. makes you sound like a fanny, open your damn mind and acctually learn what Emo truley is before taking the piss out of something you dont understand
