Onza Kieron
Also I have a spare freehub in the shed, (well it ain't really free) I think i might try drill and file a gap for another 3 pawls into it, will be a nice summer project in my warm summer shed. Tony Harrison
And there probably wouldn't be enough room.I don't understand why the pawls have to be at funny angles with this design. If d = 360 / 21 then...Pawl 1 can go at 0 degreesPawl 2 can go at 90 + (d / 4) degreesPawl 3 can go at 180 + (d / 2) degreesPawl 4 can go at 270 + (3d / 4) degreesAnd then the pawls would look like they're almost equally spaced. dave33
i was thinking pro2 body.then the hub would be less than 135mm
mat hudson
ok, keep it the same length as an xc, just machine the slots pro2 stylee, if you get me, so the pair that engages are opposite each other. have 3 pairs of 2 pawls, that'd be beast. Onza Kieron
You'll see, once I have either rode tonight or built 3 wheels I will have a bash at getting more slots into my XC Body, anyone with a cnc macine at home could have lots of fun at this.... munkee
Isnt it going to engage a bit odd since youve literally just cut out another hole for a pawl to go in to the drive shell.. From your cad drawing you can see that they arent all at the same distance apart...
Josh B
Body, anyone with a cnc macine at home could have lots of fun at this....sincerely doubt it lol, would cost nearly as much as the house for a good un !
Mr Motivator
Isnt it going to engage a bit odd since youve literally just cut out another hole for a pawl to go in to the drive shell.. From your cad drawing you can see that they arent all at the same distance apart...As I said, think about it.With 3, they can all be equally spaced around because there is 21 clicks. 3 devides into 21 nicely. But if you put all 4 round equally spaced, they dont line up with the ratchet propperly, as 4 doesn't devide into 21 as a whole number. So I had to work out how many degrees in each 4mm ratchet click then add that and devide it by the four pawls and add that so they all engage individually. That's why it's wonky. I didn't realize I would have to do this untill I started drawing it.Understand?

Mr Motivator
I've just sat down for about an hour and reworked all this..I should be able to just get away with almost having all 4 pawl seats equally round the freehub, and not wonky.I'll CAD it all up and see how it goes.Samedit: Just spotted someone has already said something to this effect on the previous page. It apears that I was thinking too much in detail. My bad. Edited May 10, 2006 by member1495
