How Do I Get The Bearings Out Of My

Mr Motivator

Recommended Posts

as said above they should hammer out, to fit the new ones you should use the hope drift set to get the bearings pressed in square to prevent uneven wear, local bike shop should have a hope drift set.

if you're having too much trouble with it, send it back to hope and get them to do it :P

No no no no no!!

There is a circlip preventing the bearings from coming out, you need to knock it to the side and then remove the bearing to get them out, theres a diagram on the hope site.

No amount of twatting will get em out!

EDIT: hit the aluminuim spacer between the bearings to one side, been a while since I done this..

Ah!!

So, move the spacer accross, and hit the spacer to get the first bearing out? Then take off the circlip for the second?

well done rich!!!!

so funny listening to people just say "smash" it with a hammer!!!! when people dont know how to do it. i say this is the thread i can say, the POOR advise from some members can be the mis fortune of someone trying to repair their bike.

i would say this, if you dont know how to do it, DONT go giving BAD advise on telling someone to bash it out, good advice comes for free, advie that the top few posts have given are bad and could cost a fellow trials rider some £££!!!!

Rich well played your totally right, you must work in a bike shop??? or have good knowledge of hope hubs.

if you get the bearing nearset the end out you can sort of see the circlip as the "spacer" washer will fall out. just please be careful. you could have ruined your freehub over someones BAD/POOR advice

you need a pincer tool.

so you can "compress" the circlip together then pull it out, press the bearing out, then put the new bearing in, NOT FORGETTING to put the circlip back in. (Y):)

if your struggling give me a bell on 01535 610839 il talk you through it dude. just ask for Wayne.

if you know a local tool shop some long nose "pincers" or something that will get down the freehub bore and get into the 2 little holes it just needs compressing THEN pulling a little bit and quite slow too.

once half way out you can just pull it out with a screw driver. but dont try putting it back in without the circlip going in. the hub will lock up and not run as it should.

Waynio.........................

for that matter IS it the back bearing thats knakered???? cos sometimes its only one or two of the bearings that is knakerd??? if its stiff or rough then yes its worth replacing, but it may be rough with you having a "bash" at it :(

check it 1st and see, you might get away with just replacing the other bearings.

OH and remember DONT jump in 2 footed and BASH stuff, there is a simple and quicker more technical way of doing things than "bashing it with a hammer"
