erm you cant get mod bikes with gears :- but if you are wanting a decent trials bike then get an onza t-rex 26"or an onza t-pro 20" these are both excellent beginner bikes.

try to try out both a 20" and a 26" before you go and buy your bike as you need to get the one you feel most comfortable on there is no point in getting the bike which is too big for you that you can do some damage to yourself, or a bike too small you cant do anything on.

here are the links for both the bikes

Onza T-Rex

Onza T-Pro

cheers ben

If your looking for something to ride to school, depending how far school is you might want a seat. In which case your probably be looking at more streety or older stuff, like a base or zebdi.

If not the the world is your oyster

to be honest its not a good idea to buy a trials bike that you intend to use for a number of purposes, it just ends up being very expensive and not working particularly well for anything :S your better off buying a trials bike then going to market and buying a dodgy bike for a tenner to blast to school on (Y)

You cant have the best of both worlds when it comes to a bike built so specifically for its purpose. I suggest buying a full build such as the onza T-rex, thats a £500 bike with gears, completely trials specific. I suppose you could ride to school on it, but it would not be the most comfortable experience each morning.

As suggested, if you have 500 going spare, go for the t-pro, 410 quid brand new leaving 90 quid for any upgrades, ie. Brake pads, handlebars, breakages.

Or, just buy a second hand one for about the 300 mark with all the upgrades you could possibily need. If you build a bike up, it tends to get very expensive, you CAN do it on the cheap, but chances are you'll end up with shitty components.

As also said, try and get something different from trials to get to school on. Not the most comfortable bikes to ride I think every single trials rider in the world would agree.

Note: The first bit I wrote, just noticed you wanted gears, so...nevermind.
