Rifts In Trials!wtf

Recommended Posts

i've just been flicking through the archives of tf and i came across a thread that clearly stated that the butlers had a rift with another group during competitions.i cant state how off putting this is to someone who wants to enter competitions.i know this sport can be really competitive and everyone wants to be the best but doesn't this just hinder the sports progression?if we cant progress the sport then how can we progress our own skills base.i class myself as getting on a bit and just want to get on with the sport i love.i don't want to see younger lads having a rift with other lads.yeah don't get me wrong,i can be competitive too but is this really good for the sport?rich johnson vs martin hawyes(old),gilles coustellier vs tibo(old) and now danny butler and......?i still have people i really look upto in the sport who are at the top of their game (stan, giacomo, hermance, cls)and they get on with it.thats how it should all be!!

i know my words don't hold any power to change a sport that is still juvenile in age but i thought i would just have my say like everyone else.

a massive thanks to everyone is acting sportsmanlike about the sport i love, hank you to everyone who reads this post and is influenced by my words and most of all thanks to all my friends(dave, ryans, bryce, brett, robby etc everyone from the stockton ride and northallerton ride) who push me to ride the best i can.

what are your views? (Y)

So your basing this topic on something you read in the archives (about 2 years old) where danny butler had an argument with someone ?

im not just basing it on that alone.i know its old news.so are the other rifts (gilles etc).regardless how old they are the fact of the matter is they happen.like i said i cant change any of it.im sure theres only a miniscule amount of people who are like that.

any views are great so long as they're positive

cheers (Y)

I completely agree mate, people do take it all too seriously, and i hate people who think they are better than anyone else...really arrogant c*nts, people who constantly do lines that you can't quite get,to pi5s you off and basically make you feel like sh*t,sure if i was good i'd show off,but after 2 minutes it gets old so you should just get on with it and ride.

zoo baby!

My God! - everyone stop being so diplimatic this isn't hippie-forum.co.uk - everyones being a bit peace and love arn't they?

This isnt a perfect world it happens in every single sport - can you picture in football and rugby on a world class level there being no tension and anxiety before the match and some tiffs during the game - its the same like that in trials - a lot can rest on a comp for sponsership maybe financial gain or whatever

ffs its just an arument - everyone argues especially when put up against each other on a world stage - it didnt even come to blows so obiously wasnt too bad - they just do it because of the tension and testosterone with the competitivness that they have to win an move themselves forward in the sport

:S Doesnt that contradict the whole point of asking for peoples feed back and who cares if people dont get on i dont get on with people but i dont see the need to make a thread about it plus it happened ages ago its in the past and thats were it should stay

The only thing that annoys me is when people try and do something better than me. Not remotely bothered what they can do, I ride for fun...

I won't respect them or envy them if they can do something better than me, so why bother!

Oh, and everyone argues mate.

lmfao DAB!yeah its true, people do argue especially when they want to be the best and are put in stressfull circumstances.thats totally justified.of course when sponsors are involved, they want the riders to be the best too, once again even more stress which leads to more confrontations.yeah it is bad watchin someone do a line you've tried a million times over just to prove that they are better.its childish.i ride with people who are 13-30 and i egg them on if its their first gap jump or a massive drop gap.i love to see people better themselves.if i manage a line i'll carry on doing it but anyone who wants to do it to i'll try and explain best i can how i managed it.i dont get into an arguement about im better and they arent.my only argument i get into is why cant I do something.my conflict is with myself, not with others.i would rather not waste my time squabbling with someone but rather egg them on to push their level of riding further.im not a new age hippy or anything like that but at some point in everyones riding past im sure you may of had a fair bit of competition with a pal and its turned into an ugly rift,i know i have.it did put me off but now its all about my sport, the people in it and the whole thing moving forward.

cheers

I've been riding for almost 10 years, and yes the comp side has got more serious and lost some of the fun, thats why i stopped competing.... so i ride for fun and to push my self and anyone who want's to learn how to ride.. but what's the point in bitching about it because no matter what sport you do there's always someone whos a sh*t and wants to spoil it for the rest of us.......

Yes DAB i got to admit when i ride with you you push me to ride even when im having a rest. lol. For example;

"OI, be smoother, just think of cadburys caramel"

"your not going to learn sitting down so get on your bike a ride BITCH"

Your a legend.

Simple answer: don't take everyone else's opinion on it. Form your own. Go to some club trials like Hampshire or Tykes and work up from there. then go and just watch a British round and see what that feels like to you.

One thing I will say: You shouldn't be uncomfortable entering a trial on the basis of other peoples problems or rifts as you call it.

People argue, although I got to admit i don't like people being super competitive at the tykes or on street, it just pisses me off. Instead of some on saying 'I can do that' why can't they say 'nice' or whatever. Theres two younger riders near me and they always compete with each other and argue who is better, and its really just bollocks.
