King C Posted May 1, 2006 Report Share Posted May 1, 2006 Is the crack bad? If its not too bad(ie. a hair line crack) then mark it where it stops and see if it gets any bigger. Before anyone bites my head off, I have a knife, so don't even try it.In reply to the lads topic.If you know a welder, by all means get it done. It won't last forever, but it'll cover your back whilst you save up for a new frame.As its cracked, the frame material surrounding the crack will have some heavy fatigue, and it'll be prone to cracking/snapping again after a short time, especially after welding as the heat will cause the frame to weaken further. So a new frame is the long term solution.If its possible, you could get some aluminium plating, and 'patch' over the crack, this will probably make it survive a bit longer, but I'm not sure if it'll be completely 'doable'.Note that I said 'If you know a welder'. They'll probably do it for free, otherwise if you take it to a welding specialist, you might get a better job done, but it'll cost you, not much, I'd guess about 20 quid to make it worth his while, maybe 30 quid for the plating option.
