Nuke Bowel
Tabbed windows = popular and useful, so why not use them? If a shitload of PC users use Firefox anyway, why not just incorporate the bits that people find useful and helpful into another internet explorer? It's hardly a crime I wouldn't call not having to use a virus checker "Much, much more advanced" or whatever either. Maybe due to the higher profile of Microsoft, plus the fact that more PCs are used worldwide (and people continue to be f**king stupid with how they use them...), more people creating viruses are targeting them? At the end of the day though, I've had my virus checker running since we got this computer, and it's just sat there happily doing it's job. Every now and then I get an "Attempted Attack blocked" message or something along those lines, but I'd still rather have to deal with that than that f**king fanny of a system on Macs for just general, every day use. Either way, me hating Macs and you liking them is beside the point in some way; although it's kind of relevant in that no matter what Microsoft made for the new Windows, you'd still hate it good point with that firefox allthough its really annoying how mc cant come up with 'new' ideas, mc even employed apple designers to design the mc office suit, dont you think this says somthing? tomturd
Tabbed browsing has been around for years and years. Way before firefox. I had some addon installed on IE when I was about 16. Thats 5 years ago.EDIT: you'll probably also find it was microsoft/windows who came up with tabs in the first place. Theres some research about saying that tabs are by far the most intuitive way of laying out an interface. So you could say that it was firefox who stole the idea off microsoft, but that'd be stupid, cos tabs are pretty much a standard and have been since before the likes of firefox.People who create virus' generally are geeks - you need to be a geek to know how to write a virus. No self respecting geek wouldnt be using the likes of Unix/Linux/Mac OSX (built on Unix). Geeks dont like Windows, its just not cool in the geek world. I know this cos I sit in lectures getting pissed off at the gimps sniggering amongst themselves, thinking theyre cool cos they mutter 'bloody windows' (followed by sniggers) to themselves when the lecturers mouse gets stuck.Lastly, after that small rant If security on linux/macs wasnt an issue then there wouldnt be secuity updates issued for web servers, pretty much constantly. But I just dont believe mc come up with enough of theyre own ideas, if they developed tabbed browsing it would make me a little happier. All those updates do is make the security stronger, if i left my mac and didnt update I could put money on it that it wouldnt be effected from virusis. Anyways at least I have the privilage of 'software' update wich is actually good and runs in the background.Recently I installed boot camp on my mac to see how mc peformed with the intel chip, the first thing it said when it had booted up after a long wait 'there is no current antivirus software installed, your computer may be at risk'

Mark W
lolYou can "not believe" all you want, but if Tom was using a tabbed version of IE before Firefox was around (if that's what he meant), and they're clearly actually developing tabbed browsing now (hence it being in beta, and being a development stage...), then they are and HAVE developed tabbing?People "believe" the world was created exactly as it says in the Bible in face of all the evidence against it, it stills doesn't mean that it was created in 6 days
mat hudson
no matter what you believe, billiam gaters must do some r&d or he wouldnt be where he is today, so it is highly likley a multimillion pound organisation developed somthing before a small programming company(i assume mozila is small in comparison)

tomturd
The addon wasnt developed by Microsoft actually.. it was a seperate firm. Its a pretty blatant feature to want though. Doesnt take a genius to think of it, you could say I thought of it myself, as I thought 'hey wouldnt it'd be pretty handy if I could have those tab things you see all over windows, on my browser?' before I googled for it. But I didnt think of it myself, someone obviously thought of tabbed browsing before I did.... and where did they get the idea? Probably the same place as me, from using tabs in Windows for many years beforehand. And now your accusing microsoft of copying firefox for using tabs... something doesnt add up

Tomm
Tabs in an internet browser aren't much different to tabs in, say, Control Panel > System, which have been around for ages. Yes, Microsoft have been slow to adopt them in IE, but the Firefox people certainly didn't invent them.As for security on Macs, what Tom said about the self-respecting geeks is partially right. Also, Macs take up about 5% of the market, and Windows is a much bigger target with 94% or whatever. BUT I'm pretty sure Macs are safer and harder to write viruses for. If you ever use OS X, you can tell it's more security-orientated (to the point of being annoying sometimes). Like when you install programs and you have to give an admin password. There's been a Mac virus and the only way it worked is by the user opening coolpics.jpeg.tgz and then opening an executable AND then typing an admin password. And if you're that stupid then you probably deserve a virus Anyway, it's late and this Mac Vs PC argument is as futile as telling Wayne that Hope Pro II hubs sometimes skip

Not that I really like it over anything else, just providing some balance to the what appear to be unfounded comments from earlier in the thread I'm also a linux fan, and sure I could get used to a mac if I used one for any length of time. Also didnt mean to sound as if I think all people with a mac are geeks. More the other way around, that you won't find a true geek running windows, for good reason too.
Tomm
I'm also a linux fan, and sure I could get used to a mac if I used one for any length of time.In a way, OS X is like Linux. It "feels" more like it in the (very limited) experience I have. But in some ways it's totally different. For example I spent hours googling and editing .conf files to get my mouse to work with MandrakeLinux, but with a Mac you just have to plug it in. You might say it's the best of both worlds

Siders77
IIRC Mac's were never 'immune' as such. Mark W
Yep, just the same as how loads of the Windows viruses are ones that you get in sketchy e-mails and stuff like that? Ah well. Double standards in an Mac vs. PC thing? Surely not Meh...
