Joe_Elding
Long story short I've managed to strip my pedal/crank arm thread and need the right size for a helicoil, pitch and width and the like Much thanks
Joe_Elding
Ahh sheet, I just realised that non-driveside is a reverse thread isn't it? how will that work for helicoiling it, do i just turn it round or something?

ScotchDave
You'll have to get a reverse thread helicoil for it.
Trials Punk
Couldn't you just to it from the back of the crank arm, or am I just being dull?
ScotchDave
Sorry, but it won't work that way, take a nut and bolt, flip the nut and it still works as normal.
Trials Punk
Sorry, but it won't work that way, take a nut and bolt, flip the nut and it still works as normal. Good point, you can tell I wasn't thinking when I said that. Dammit.
Tony Harrison
I think you may have a job getting the crank helicoiled. Might be a better idea just to buy a new crank...
rich4130
What crank is it?
Trials Dave
ive just done exactly the same on my drive side (right side) crank arm. i also need to get it helicoiled after having the cranks 2 weeks
dave33
your far better off getting an incert make like the same idea on tensile craks, 9/16'' right or left thread in the inside about 14.30 so you would need the incert to be 13mm or so to tap it and about 16mm od drill the hole in the crank 14.5mm and tap it turn a thread on the outside of the the incert and screw it in with some sort of thread lock and then you can tap the inside of the incert if you got to ur local engineer the should be able to make you one, should take to long
ScotchDave
I'm fairly sure that the thread is non standard, probably better getting a full insert.
dave33
its just a bike thread, the pitch is 1mm i think, but you check that any way, and most bike shopes have the tap so no need to worry or just buy a tensile incert and tap the cranl to take it simple as pie
