as the title suggests i need to get her in doors a mountain bike, i think it might need front and rear suspension :-

i don't want nasty cheap like the 50quid ebay jobbies but i don't wont to spend to a fortune either, i've no doubt after the second sore arse outing she'll never ride it again :P:P

If she's likely to ride it twice then don't bother, but at £300 the 2004 Carerra Fury is a bit of a steal. Know anybody who works at Halfords, as they can get it for £255. HOWEVER - they're running out, so you may find you need to get it sent to you from another store. Was £600 though.

Edit >>> that was written before I knew the budget, but maybe you could share it?

I work in Halfords. B)

Carrera's are a good buy.

The Kraken's good. Can't remember the price though...

For a decent one though, you wanna add more to your budget. As 150 squiddleys will get you a shit bike to be honest.

I think you should re think that.

£150 would get you an Apollo XC26* or an Apollo Charm

Now if you think of the basic XC26 at £99.99 yes that is a bag of shit.

Look at the build of the XC26* for the money your getting a decent bike, with a gel seat which is great.

Just ignore the names on the bikes. Don't go for a carrera incase she decides never to ride it again and you've got alot of moneys worth sitting there.

Personal preference.

I don't like Apollo's. Full stop. Not because of the name, I just generally hate building.

Even on the 's' Models, they're still pretty much shit. I know they're an upgrade from the 'normal' ones.

But I still don't like them.

Of course if I had to buy a bike in the Apollo range, it'd be the XC26* mens. But that's not the point.

Not having a go, or trying to start an arguement, just giving reason as to why I said what I said.

Which I should've done in the first place.

You were doign what I was doing. No worries lol.

Personally I love setting them up, if you take your time you can make it into a really good working bike.

I think it would just be a waste to spend £100 extra. Unless she's thinking of serious riding thats going to need a bike to take the milage.

Could always take out the bike care plan aye.

Ahem halfrods people will know what I mean.

Don't get incentive for those now.

Unless they count as an accessory?

Feck the care plans, Mudguards and light's will do!

Apologies for everyone else you are like ' '

It's a Halfords thing.

Back to topic.

I guess the XC26s or whatever isn't a bad bike.

If you have the time to set it up perfect. By all means do so.

I try to with customers ones. But there's always something wrong.:turned:

Just as a warning for anyone thinking of buying one of them, from my bitter experience (I tried sueing for it being a faulty product, but didn't get anywhere), you'll need to make sure you buy a second chain otherwise you can't pedal along on it.

I was gutted. Both literally, and metaphorically (it's like a foot long).

Grow up Mark.

Bit rich from you Sam?

Anyway, I've never, ever seen an Argos bike that has been worth having. Like Matt said, if the shit hits the fan you're in a worse-off position than with an actual bike company, not to mention you're just getting a better product anyway if you buy from a dealer like Halfords. Another benefit to Halfords or a lbs is the after-sales care you'll get with it. A lot of places offer deals on free services and what have you after you buy a full bike from them, and with cheap bikes that are more prone to part failure, that'll come in handy.

Suspension on the rear is just a gimmic until you hit around £300.

Charm is a nice bike, will agree. Bit more travel than the XC26*.

I hope all you halfords employees are in with the art of lots of muc off on the warehouse floor. A few kids toys and of course a 12" here and there.
