Davetrials
Go on who does it, surley SURLEY if a tyre is slipping on a rail the force behind it will be so great its gonna slip tar or no tari personally think its the stupidest thing ive trialsriders do. CBProductions
Maybe if it previously had wax on it there would be a point I guess , I dont ride enough rails just yet to justify tar.... I guess its like trying to do it to a rock as well but I may be wrong ?
Greetings
me thinks it's better to carry arround a ups and orbital sander, roughen the surface of the rail, or preferably glue some sand paper onto it.
Tony Harrison
I think it's silly. It's comparable to moving a section marker at a comp because you 'don't like that bit'. If your tyre, tyre-pressure and technique are correct, you shouldn't need extra grip on a rail, even smooth stainless ones.
Joe Papasnap Maher
well ill be the 1st to admit then......but not nowdays...I mean...back in the day...like when i rode a mission reefer....it was the rage wasnt it??
mat hudson
i'd say more comparable to pressure washing all the rocks then drying them so they wernt slippy its a pretty pointless thing to do. are you sure its tar you have seen on rails not just manky grind wax? Mark W
I have heard of people tarring rails, so no, it's not just some skanky wax or anything.
anzo
Its everywhere where I live. Walk around down and every rail/surface has a huge patch of tar on it. I love walking around places you've never been to and theres some huge wall with the top of it smashed to peices...shows how popular the sport is, eh? Will Arnold
only time i'd use tar for grip is ontop of a phonebox, where im gapping to something from it.

Lee Cable
If i can grip the rail, its either to wet or my technique sucks. So i go away, practice technique so i can grip, and then do it. Tar is silly. From Lee
Trials Dave
People probably just do it for confidence?thats what i was thinking.... does it make any difference by the way? i have never tried it. lolcheersDave
anzo
I think its just one of those things that gets passed on with who you ride with...People f**k up a line and pretend they lost grip, so they whack some tar on it, make it and are convinced it was the tar.Either that or Mr.Tosser insists that you put it on everything because its what he does...so everyone else should.
