Pads-non Grinded Rim

Yo mate

id advise the Kool stop pads for a smooth rim, i found that with tar they were great.

DO not go for Heatsink Blues without a grind, i did that mistake, and have had a shocking brake for bout 3 weeks, only just got a grind 2 days ago, and it feels soo much snappier. You should go for a grind, but if you do, get new pads, cos a pad like Kool stops have a really low wear rate on a grind.

but what are you scared of?? grinding's fine, 90% of people do it with no probs!

Me being the 10%, grinds don't do anything for me.

Zoo pads, little bit of tar, smooth, best brake i've felt and i've ridden a few peoples bikes now.

hehe ;p.

Is a fast or slow angle grinder best????

what is 11k rpm like for grinding rims???

A faster angle grinder will grind your rim quicker. ;)

I can't think of any reason why the speed would alter the type of grind.

surely if its rotating faster, it will grind the rim more becuase its making more rotations, therefore the blade is hitting it more, doing a better job, with a slower one, you would have to hold it on more.

But i may be wrong, correct me if i am

Well when you grind your rim, you grind it all till it's 100% ground. If you went over it again it wouldn't make different surely? It'd just do the job slightly faster that's all.

If you go around the rim at a constant speed with a faster grinder it'll be a worse grind than with a slower grinder. If you think about it the thing about the grind that makes the brake work better the is the way you put little tiny divots in the rim levaving a sharp edge. If you have a fast grinder then it will hit the rim more times per second meaning that the sharp edge's of the divot will be a lot closer together. Its like a bed of nails, If you have the nails really close together(fast grind) so it is effectively a flat surface, you can lie on it no problems, yet if you have say 10 evenly spaced out nails(slow grind, yes I know a bit of an exageration)the it will hurt. It's all because of pressure.

So in conclusion. Fast grinder=move around the rim fast

slow grinder=move around the rim slower

I would say fast is about 13k rpm and slow is about 10-11k rpm
