Hiltop
its not suprising at all that he is only paid one dollar, many executives get only minimal salarys, but huge share options paying vast dividens.
yoyoyo
It would be funny though if he invited someone to his house. And when they got to his mansion or whatever he has and they ask how much his salary is, he can say $1.

anzo
Bill gates/Microsoft might have to start paying daily fines of about 2 million euros if they dont share programming information to rival companies...don't think it'd effect his account much.rumor is, if bill gates fell over, in the time it took him to hit the floor he could build up enough money to keep him upright. Dan Clark
From what I can remember, when he dies Bill Gates's wife gets nothing, and his children get £1 million each, to start their own business's, rest goes to charity. Some facts about his money I just read. He's worth between $50 and $100 billion, it flactuates. He earns on average about $100 a second, assuming he works 14 hours a day, sleeping not counting. This means, if he drops $1000 bill, its not worth his time to pick it up, he would earn more money walking to work.Buying a Lamborgini Diablo would make as much difference to him as buying a mars bar for the average American, to him, it would be worth 31 cents if he had an average salary.Using the same formula, his mansion is costing the equilivent of $63If all his money was in dollar bills, it would weigh 40,000 tons and be stacked 2690 miles high.By the time he would have read this post, he would have earned about $30,000. Tony Harrison
Since when does an owner get a salary..? It's just retained profit which will vary from year to year.Isn't he CEO or something? He's not 'the owner', it's a PLC. Although I do believe he has quite a large stake in it.
F-Stop Junkie
Both Microsoft and Apple are publicly owned. Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Steve Jobs will be paid a salary as they are employees as well as shareholders. On top of this they will get other benefits (profit shares, free travel, medical cover) and huge chunks of share options. They will also get options on shares, allowing them even great profit potential.Steve Jobs is rich, not because of a huge bank balance, but because of the portion of Apple and Disney that he owns. Same will Bill Gates and Microsoft.Someone like Paul Allen (Microsoft founder who sold all his Microsoft stock when he left the company) actually does have a huge pile of cash, as well as how own basketball team (The Seattle Sonics) as well as the largest privately owned boat in the world. Billg is the current richest man though. Facts and figures here.

Extreme_biker0
Since when does an owner get a salary..? It's just retained profit which will vary from year to year. No, Apples (surprisingly enough) isn't a sole trader or partnership, so the rules are different to say, if your dad's a plumber or something. It's a publicity thing to make them look like they are doing it for the company. Even if they're salary, taxed through (the american equivilant) of PAYE (income tax) is only 1 dollar, there are still many more ways for them to pay them selves from the company. When you're that high up in a company you have the power to do it in much better (more tax efficient) ways too.Anyways, without looking it up, i'm sure he's a large shareholder in said companies anyway, so he'll recieve dividends (payments to the shareholders out of the companies profit). In fact he'll probably have a say in what dividends the company pays. Like I say these guys are powerful. They pay themselves! This wouldn't be classed as salary, so if he recieves $500,000 in dividends in the year, his salary is still only $1. Poor guy!His wealth will also fluctuate because one of the most tax efficient ways to get money from a company you have a lot of control of is to have the company buy back its shares from other shareholders. This decreases the number of shares on the market, and increases the value of your stake.Whatever you do don't start donating money throgh paypal because you feel sorry for the guy! Jobs, as owner of Pixar and all round Mr Nice Guy, has been given a position on the Disney board, and a big chunk of Disney stock.
